Description
Els is a female Angora goat and a recurring student at Cherryton Academy. With her small stature and slender build, her body is mostly covered in a fleece of white, woolly hair, while her face features pale pink skin, large round eyes, and outward-sloping brown horns. She bears a strong physical resemblance to her classmate Tem, despite them being different species. Her typical school attire consists of a white blouse and bow tie paired with a long, pleated white skirt that has light blue stripes near the hem.

Initially, Els appears to be a very nervous and cautious individual, particularly around large carnivores. In the wake of the murder of her classmate Tem, she is visibly on edge. When she finds herself alone with Legoshi, a gray wolf from the drama club, she immediately assumes the worst, grabbing a pair of scissors to defend herself and accusing him of pretending to be kind only to view herbivores as food. However, this behavior stems from fear rather than malice, and she possesses a good heart. After learning the truth about Legoshi's intentions, she immediately regrets her accusations and apologizes for the terrible things she said. Beyond her initial fearfulness, Els is also described as kind, cheerful, and sociable, interacting warmly with her clubmates, including the carnivores.

Els primary role in the story is as the secret love interest of Tem, an alpaca who was murdered before he could give her a love letter. Her central motivation in her first major appearance is survival and overcoming the fear instilled by Tem's death. She inadvertently becomes the catalyst for a key character moment for Legoshi. After a drama club meeting, Legoshi manipulates the lights to ensure Els returns to the auditorium alone. Terrified, she is unable to understand why this large carnivore has isolated her. Her fear only dissolves when Legoshi, rather than attacking, hands her the letter from Tem that he had been carrying. He explains that he wanted to ensure she received it in private, as Tem would be saddened if everyone knew she was his first and secret love. This event completely shifts her perspective. She realizes Legoshi is not a monster but simply a very awkward and kind individual, and she becomes one of the few students who sees the gentleness hidden within him.

In terms of relationships, her most significant connection is a one-sided one with the deceased Tem, whose feelings she was unaware of. The experience of receiving his letter through Legoshi forms a unique bond between her and the wolf. After this misunderstanding is cleared, they become friends, and she is shown conversing with him and offering him encouragement regarding their drama club performance. She is also friends with Bill, a carnivore tiger. Her perceptive nature allows her to see past his bravado; she understands that his attempts to cheer up Legoshi are really him trying to calm his own nerves. She is also aware that Bill has purchased herbivore meat on the black market, yet she accepts him completely, including that part of his life. Throughout the series, she interacts with other herbivores like her friend Ellen and carnivores like Aoba and Juno.

Els undergoes notable development in her brief but impactful appearance. She transforms from a terrified herbivore who sees all carnivores as potential predators to a more understanding individual capable of complex friendships across species lines. She moves from accusing Legoshi to apologizing to him and offering him genuine support. Her abilities are not combat-oriented, as she is easily disarmed by Legoshi. Her notable skills lie in her social perceptiveness, particularly her ability to read the true emotional states of those around her, such as Bill, which allows her to navigate the dangerous world of Cherryton with a degree of empathy and understanding.
