Born into the retired Natori exorcist clan, Shūichi Natori's ability to perceive yōkai caused his family to blame him for misfortunes. This fostered a strained relationship with his father and a pessimistic youth where he rejected social interactions. As a child, he discovered the bound yōkai Hiiragi and bandaged her injured hand; her reassurance that he was not a curse provided rare comfort. Teenage years brought exorcist Takuma Yousuke, who introduced Natori to exorcist society. Inspired to turn his ability from burden into purpose, Natori began attending meetings. He adopted glasses to sharpen his innate spiritual sight. At a meeting, Seiji Matoba noted Natori's moderate strength based on colors perceived in a test kimono. Their rivalry intensified competing for a three-horned yōkai; Natori's failure to defeat it, claimed by Matoba, deepened his uncertainty. Now an adult, Natori balances dual careers as a popular actor and professional exorcist. His acting persona, marked by flirtatious charm and calculated mystery, extends into personal interactions as a social shield. He leads the revived Natori clan and commands three shikigami: Sasago, Urihime, and Hiiragi—the latter joining him after he freed her from a sealing spell. A moving lizard-shaped yōkai resides on his skin, visible only to those with strong spiritual power. This entity enhances his abilities but signifies future risk, notably avoiding his left leg and hinting at potential loss. His relationship with Takashi Natsume begins with conflicting ideologies: Natori advocates forceful exorcism, rooted in past spirit-inflicted suffering, while Natsume seeks peaceful resolutions. Despite initial friction, they forge a brotherly bond. Natori becomes protective, shielding Natsume from threats like the Matoba clan and discouraging his recklessness with yōkai. He respects Natsume's autonomy over the Book of Friends, though he believes destroying it would ease Natsume's burdens. Their dynamic challenges Natori's worldview, gradually softening his stance on coexistence while retaining pragmatism toward genuine threats. Regarding Matoba, Natori maintains cautious distrust due to opposing methods and Matoba's interest in exploiting Natsume's Book connection. Their history of competition and clashes persists, though necessity sometimes forces collaboration. Natori manipulates paper shikigami for combat, communication, and tracking. His spiritual power, augmented by the lizard yōkai, remains functional but not exceptional, requiring shikigami support for complex tasks. The glasses he wears reflect his strained perspective, caught between human and spirit worlds yet fully accepted by neither.
