Description
Mari Ohara, a third-year student at Uranohoshi Girls' High School, was born to a Japanese mother and an Italian-American father managing the Ohara Hotels and Resorts chain. This affluent background enables her residence in a suite at the family-owned Hotel Ohara on Awashima Island. After studying abroad, her family’s financial contribution secured her unique position as the school’s student director upon re-enrollment.

Her childhood bonds with Kanan Matsuura and Dia Kurosawa trace back to elementary school. During their first high school year, Kanan prompted them to form an initial idol group. Mari sustained an injury before a crucial performance, leading Kanan and Dia to disband the group and conceal their motives—to protect Mari’s overseas scholarship and prioritize her recovery. Unaware, Mari departed abroad. She discovered their reasoning in Episode 9 upon returning, resulting in a confrontation and reconciliation with Kanan. This reunited all three in Aqours, the new school idol group founded by Chika Takami.

Mari radiates cheerfulness, eccentricity, and mischief. She often acts independently, embraces challenges eagerly, and maintains positivity to avoid burdening others. Her speech blends English words (or Italian in the English dub) into Japanese, features third-person references, and carries a distinct accent. During sadness or seriousness, her pitch deepens, her accent fades, and foreign words diminish. Despite enthusiasm, she initially doubted her fit as a Japanese-style idol, contrasting it with her preference for industrial metal.

Her hobbies include sports and horseback riding, complemented by singing prowess and physical flexibility. Daily routines incorporate yoga, horseback riding, naps, and leisure. Physically, she stands 162-163 cm (approximately 5'4"), with light blonde hair styled in a braided headband looped on the left and bright green eyes. She often wears a turquoise vest with her summer uniform, distinguishing her among Aqours members.

Within Aqours, Mari belongs to the subunit Guilty Kiss, represented by violet as her image color. She contributes to song concepts, describing musical ideas inspired by summer imagery in her "ROAD TO IDOL" message. She firmly believes smiles from their performances can bring happiness to others.

Her character development evolves from initial reluctance and past disappointment about idol activities to committed participation in Aqours. This includes resolving misunderstandings and emotional fallout with Kanan and Dia over their first group’s disbandment, ultimately strengthening their bond and renewing her embrace of the school idol path.

Her food preferences favor coffee and lemons, while she dislikes natto and kimchi.
