Description
Saruhiko Fushimi holds the position of third-in-command within Scepter 4, the government agency under the Blue King. He defected from the rival group HOMRA, claiming dissatisfaction with their environment and a pursuit of greater power. An underlying motive involved seeking attention from his former friend, Yata Misaki. He regards Blue King Reisi Munakata as a paternal figure while refusing to openly acknowledge this sentiment.

Born to Niki and Kisa Fushimi, Saruhiko suffered severe parental neglect and abuse. His father derisively named him "Saru" (monkey) and inflicted psychological torment, such as destroying his childhood ant research project. His mother remained emotionally distant. This upbringing forged a withdrawn, pessimistic demeanor and difficulty forming attachments. During middle school, he met Yata Misaki, who persisted in befriending him despite initial rejection. They became inseparable, with Yata eventually convincing Saruhiko to move in with him to escape his abusive home. Their bond solidified through shared experiences, including recruitment into HOMRA after being rescued by its leader, Mikoto Suoh.

Saruhiko grew disillusioned with HOMRA, viewing its members as wasteful of their abilities. He burned his Homra insignia—a self-inflicted wound partially concealed beneath his Scepter 4 uniform—and defected to Scepter 4. He declared this betrayal openly to Yata in an alleyway, emphasizing his pursuit of strength and dismissing HOMRA’s significance. His personality blends intellectual brilliance with emotional detachment. He solves complex equations effortlessly, excels at programming and hacking, and demonstrates strategic ruthlessness in missions, such as drugging civilians for efficiency. He openly expresses boredom with social obligations and work duties, complying minimally when necessary. He harbors a distinct dislike for vegetables and enjoys video games and card tricks, the latter often perceived as cheating by peers.

Despite his cynicism, Saruhiko retains conflicted loyalties. He respects Mikoto Suoh, referring to him with honorifics and freezing in fear during Suoh’s jailbreak. He covertly aided former HOMRA associates: freeing Anna Kushina from a vending machine, helping her and Tatara Totsuka evade a dangerous Strain, and providing Yata with Anna’s location during her kidnapping. His dynamic with Yata remains central; he taunts him during combat to provoke reactions, mimicking his deceased father’s mannerisms to sustain Yata’s hatred. This stems from jealousy over Yata shifting focus to Suoh and HOMRA, as Saruhiko preferred negative attention over being ignored. After Suoh’s death, Saruhiko privately acknowledged feeling conflicted about Yata’s grief, rejecting any satisfaction in the event to avoid self-perceived pettiness.

Saruhiko wields throwing knives and a saber named Pleiades (Subaru), using the knives to channel his Blue Aura into force fields. He temporarily affiliated with Jungle, gaining Green Aura as part of a ruse. Unexpectedly, he demonstrates kindness toward children and animals despite apparent awkwardness, correctly identifying insects and gently relocating spiders. These traits suggest unacknowledged compassion shaped by his lack of early nurturing.
