TV-Series
Description
Carlos Lopez is one of the three human children who befriend the Autobots early in the events of Transformers: Armada. He is a young boy, with available sources giving his age as either ten or twelve years old at the start of the series. He is a good friend of Rad White and Alexis Thi Dang, having been friends with Rad since kindergarten.

In terms of personality, Carlos is presented as an energetic and somewhat impulsive kid who enjoys sports and physical activities. He is a capable skateboarder, a skill that becomes directly useful when his personal Mini-Con partner, Grindor, takes on the alternate form of a high-tech skateboard. Carlos also has a love for rap and hip-hop music. He is generally brave and willing to join his friends on their adventures, though he can sometimes be impatient or act without thinking. For example, he was the one who voiced caution when Rad was drawn to touch a strange artifact in a cavern, but he later accidentally activated a trap in an ancient temple. He also has a tendency to nap, a trait that Alexis jokingly compares to the Autobot Scavenger.

Carlos's role in the story, alongside Rad and Alexis, is that of a human bridge between the audience and the world of the Transformers. The trio discovers the Mini-Cons, small robotic partners, near their town, which inadvertently signals the Autobots and Decepticons to come to Earth. Carlos quickly forms a bond with the Mini-Con Grindor, who only he can understand, and this partnership gives him a direct stake in the conflict. The children act as the moral compass for the Autobots, offering help in their mission, keeping their secret, and often finding themselves in the middle of battles. Carlos's perspective is more pragmatic than Rad's more analytical approach or Alexis's empathetic one; he is often the one to express doubt or wariness about a situation, as seen when he questions the loyalty of the newly arrived Autobot Scavenger.

Throughout the series, Carlos maintains key relationships with his human friends and several Autobots. He is fiercely loyal to Rad and Alexis, even when they get into trouble or bicker. Among the Autobots, he is closest to Hot Shot, often riding with him into battle and sharing a playful, sibling-like dynamic where they engage in activities like playing tag. His bond with his Mini-Con, Grindor, is also central to his character, as Grindor transforms into his skateboard and provides him with a unique way to keep up with the giant robots. In the episode Trust, Carlos is shown drinking milk at the Autobot base and later expresses suspicion about Scavenger's allegiances, demonstrating that he thinks critically about the Autobots' decisions even if he does not always voice his concerns immediately.

Carlos develops over the course of the story from a typical kid who stumbles into an extraordinary situation to a more experienced and reliable companion to the Autobots. While he starts out sometimes making reckless decisions, such as taking Mini-Cons to a crowded carnival, he learns from these experiences. He proves himself capable of handling dangerous situations, helping to rescue friends and fending off Decepticon attacks. The initial awe and fear he feels around the giant robots gradually transform into a deep sense of responsibility and genuine friendship.

One notable aspect of Carlos is his cultural background, which is occasionally referenced through his dialogue. He is known for his catchphrase, holy frijoles, which he exclaims when surprised or stressed. Regarding notable abilities, Carlos has no superpowers or special combat training. His primary abilities are his athleticism, especially his proficiency with a skateboard, and his skill as a mechanic. While the animated series does not focus on this, one source mentions that he is an excellent mechanic, a trait that is more prominent in comic book adaptations of the story. His most important ability, however, is his courage and his role as a supportive human ally, using his small size to help in ways the Autobots cannot.
