Description
Masao Sato, a timid and sensitive five-year-old in the sunflower class, bears a shaven head reminiscent of a rice ball, earning him the nickname *Onigiri*—a term wielded with affection by friends and mockery by bullies. Quick to tremble or flush with embarrassment, he often dissolves into tears over minor upsets, branded a “scaredy cat” and “cry baby” by peers. Yet beneath his fragile exterior lies an unwavering belief in romance, epitomized by his adoration of Ai. Though she treats him more like a pet than an equal, her mention sparks fleeting courage in him, friends leveraging this devotion to coax him past fears.

His quiet passions include curating phone card collections, capturing insects (notably gifting crickets to classmates), and drafting manga inspired by Usuto Yoshii’s works. A meticulous streak borders on obsession, manifesting in rigid cleanliness rituals, yet at home, he paradoxically tidies others’ spaces with responsible precision—a contrast to his usual anxious demeanor.

Shin-chan and Nene tease him playfully, though Kazama and Bo reliably soothe his frazzled nerves. His bond with Nene intertwines tension and tenderness: he treads carefully around her fiery temper, yet they slip into mock marital roles during games, reflecting their unpredictable dynamic. As the smallest in the Kasukabe Defense Organization, his occasional diaper use underscores lingering childhood vulnerability.

In group trials—such as resisting adult plots to resurrect a nostalgic past—he contributes peripherally, amplifying emotional beats or comic relief rather than steering pivotal actions. His traits remain fixed across narratives, a steadfast presence in the group’s escapades, unchanged by time or trial.
