Description
Shell Septinos operates as a wealthy casino owner and professional gambler within Mardock City, affiliated with the powerful October Corporation. He cultivates a public image of absolute confidence and control, consistently appearing in stylish attire adorned with distinctive color-shifting sunglasses and multiple rings. Owning several casinos, he actively participates in high-stakes public gambling events, his success reinforcing both his financial stability and formidable reputation.
Financed by October Corporation, Shell serves the conglomerate as a money launderer and critical revenue source. A visible neural implant protruding from his temple facilitates the regular memory deletions his neurological condition requires, a device he habitually touches. These deletions erase memories of his victims and personal relationships, including those with the teenage prostitutes he exploits and murders.
Severe childhood trauma involving prolonged sexual abuse by his mother fuels Shell's criminal behavior. This history drives him to target women with similar experiences of parental abuse. He murders them and transforms their remains into blue diamonds via an unstated process, wearing these diamonds as rings to symbolically "purify" his victims. His ongoing neurological deterioration impedes his ability to develop healthy coping mechanisms, exacerbating his violent tendencies.
One significant victim is Rune Balot, a 15-year-old former prostitute he initially took in. After she discovered discrepancies in her falsified identification documents, Shell attempted to eliminate her by slitting her throat and detonating her car. Her survival through experimental cyberization under Mardock Scramble 09 regulation prompted him to repeatedly hire assassins to silence her before she could testify. He contracted the Bandersnatch group and later enlisted Dimsdale Boiled, a former Mardock Scramble 09 officer, to eliminate both Balot and Boiled's former partner, Œufcoque.
Facing trial due to evidence gathered by Balot and Dr. Easter, Shell becomes a liability to October Corporation, which abandons him to protect its interests. His engagement to Octavia October, the mentally challenged daughter of October Corporation director Cleanwill John October, further ties him to the conglomerate.
