Description
Lizzie Garland acts as Claudia McCunnen’s personal bodyguard within the criminal organization Inferno, a position rooted in their childhood friendship. This deep bond creates absolute trust, leading Claudia to choose Lizzie exclusively despite high-ranking members typically employing multiple guards. Lizzie displays exceptional firearms proficiency and commands Inferno’s shocktroops during critical operations like securing shipments.
Physically, she is a tall, slim woman with dark skin, short black hair, and dark brown eyes. Her signature attire features gold earrings, a silver cross necklace, and a silver wristband, often paired with a white tube top and open black leather jacket exposing her midriff. She completes the look with a dark red belt bearing a silver buckle, black leather pants, and black boots. Minor appearance variations occur across media, but core elements persist.
After Ein’s era and Reiji Azuma’s rise as Inferno’s top assassin (codenamed Zwei), Lizzie becomes Zwei’s operational partner. She develops genuine fondness for him, aiding missions including Cal Devens’ retrieval from rival gang Bloodie’s territory, and establishes a protective dynamic toward Zwei.
When Zwei escapes Inferno, Lizzie is reassigned as handler for the next Phantom, Drei—revealed as Cal Devens. Honoring Zwei’s wishes, she attempts to deter Cal from embracing her assassin role, discouraging training and urging abandonment of vengeance. Cal rejects this, remaining with Inferno to pursue revenge against Zwei.
Lizzie’s protective nature leads to her demise. After Cal kidnaps Mio Fujieda in Japan, Lizzie intervenes. Their confrontation escalates into lethal Russian roulette using a pocket watch. Hesitating to shoot someone connected to herself and Zwei, Lizzie is killed by Cal.
Personality-wise, Lizzie is often mysterious, showcasing fierce loyalty and protectiveness toward Claudia and later Zwei. Contrasting depictions highlight a volatile temperament in some adaptations, where she exhibits a quick temper, expressiveness, and raised voice during confrontations. Regardless, unwavering loyalty to Claudia defines her throughout Inferno.
