Yue Ayase attends Mahora Academy in Class 2-A, progressing to 3-A, and was born on November 16. She stands 138 cm tall with purple hair and violet or purple eyes. Exceptionally intelligent, she belongs to the Library Exploration Club with Nodoka Miyazaki, Haruna Saotome, and Konoka Konoe, yet paradoxically joins the "Baka Rangers" due to her poor academic performance and dislike of studying. This disinterest stems from her grandfather's death. Her intellect manifests in philosophical pursuits and sharp deduction, leading her to uncover Negi Springfield's identity as a mage and Mahora Academy's magical nature after witnessing events during a Kyoto field trip and analyzing clues left by Negi's father.
She maintains a stoic, detached personality and frequently drinks unusual beverages. As Nodoka's close friend, she initially supports Nodoka's romantic feelings for Negi before developing her own conflicted emotions. During the Kyoto trip, she aids Nodoka in a game to kiss Negi but feels guilt over her emerging feelings. This conflict peaks at the Mahora Festival when Nodoka confronts her about overhearing Yue's feelings. In distress, Yue jumps from the library but survives using a grappling hook.
