OVA
Description
Sekai Saionji, only daughter of Youko Saionji, grew up in Motehara alongside childhood friends Setsuna Kiyoura and Niki Ookuma. She later distanced herself from Niki due to frequent conflicts. During one such middle school conflict, she met Noboru Matsukata, who lived above her family's apartment. Their initially innocent friendship escalated into molestation by Noboru, actions Sekai failed to recognize as inappropriate. Her mother never revealed her father's identity, describing him only as a "hopeless good-for-nothing".
Enrolling at Sakakino High, Sekai developed feelings for Makoto Itou while researching him for Setsuna, who had a crush on him. She orchestrated Makoto's relationship with Kotonoha Katsura to stay close to him, though her own romantic feelings complicated this. Sekai works part-time as a waitress at the Radish restaurant alongside Nanami Kanroji, Hikari Kuroda, and Kokoro Katsura.
In the visual novel, Sekai distances herself from Makoto and Kotonoha unless actively pursued by Makoto. She struggles emotionally when Setsuna leaves for Paris and is devastated if Makoto dates Kotonoha. Her perception of relationships is influenced by a cellphone charm ritual she believes "works" if successful. Despite insight into others' relationships, she fails to apply this wisdom to her own life. When depressed, she expresses a longing for a father figure. In routes involving a three-way relationship, she initially resists but reciprocates after Kotonoha expresses bisexual feelings toward her.
The anime adaptation portrays Sekai as more overtly manipulative. She initiates an affair with Makoto under the guise of "training" him for Kotonoha, dismissing her actions as meaningless. After Setsuna's departure to Paris, Sekai becomes emotionally unstable and withdraws, enabling Makoto's infidelities. Upon discovering a potential pregnancy, she confronts Makoto publicly, leading to his social isolation. When Makoto reunites with Kotonoha, Sekai murders him in a fit of rage and is subsequently killed by Kotonoha, who deduces the pregnancy was fabricated.
In the manga, Sekai openly declares her love for Makoto and actively encourages his infidelity. After Kotonoha accidentally stabs Makoto during an attack, Sekai descends into insanity and murders Kotonoha to "protect" Makoto. She later embraces a horrified Makoto, vowing to be his source of happiness.
*Summer/Shiny Days* reveals Sekai's hidden vulnerabilities when she feigns illness to avoid work. Learning of Makoto's relationship with Setsuna triggers jealousy, particularly regarding Setsuna's stable family life. Sekai's emotional instability intensifies when Setsuna disappears, exposing her unresolved paternal issues.
The *Magical Heart Kokoro-chan* OVA presents an alternate reality where Sekai is part of a superhero team led by her mother, Youko Saionji. She battles a virus transforming civilians into "perverted zombies," using modified equipment like an upgraded vacuum cleaner. Her interactions retain traces of her canonical personality, including teasing Makoto about his interest in younger girls.
