Description
Midori Yamabuki, later known as Midori Norimaki after her marriage, is a central supporting character in the Dr. Slump series who works as a teacher at Penguin Village Middle School. She is first introduced as the instructor of Arale Norimaki and eventually becomes the romantic interest and wife of Senbei Norimaki, taking on a surrogate mother role for Arale.
She sports large, curly blonde hair, a design inspired by Marilyn Monroe in the original series. Her strong resemblance to another character, Akane, is often used for comedic effect, such as when Akane impersonates her to prank Senbei. This likeness also leads them to team up in an attempt to cheat during the Penguin Village Grand Prix race, though their plan fails.
Generally friendly, kindhearted, and dedicated to her students, she can on occasion become genuinely angry. After marrying Senbei, she is often portrayed as more scatterbrained.
Her background is partially revealed in the film *Dr. Slump: Hoyoyo! Space Adventure*. As a child, she accidentally wandered onto a spaceship belonging to the royal family of Planet Takeya-Saodake while lost at an amusement park. The childless king and queen adopted her but eventually returned her to her birth parents on Earth after locating them. Midori promised the couple she would succeed their throne if needed in the future.
Her relationship with Senbei Norimaki develops through his series of comedic and often unsuccessful attempts to woo her. Their dynamic changes when Senbei, muttering a joking marriage proposal to himself outside her bathroom, is overheard by her. She immediately accepts, and they marry shortly thereafter.
Following the marriage, she moves in with Senbei and they have a son named Turbo Norimaki, who develops psychic powers after an accident involving an alien spacecraft. In the sequel manga *The Brief Return of Dr. Slump*, set around the time of *Dragon Ball GT*, she and Senbei are shown to have a second child named Nitro Norimaki.
She crosses over into the *Dragon Ball* series during the Red Ribbon Army Saga, where she meets Goku and makes him cookies while he is in Penguin Village. She also witnesses Arale's defeat of General Blue. Decades later, in *Dragon Ball Super* during the "Future" Trunks Saga, she is seen shopping with her son Turbo; like other Penguin Village residents, she does not appear to have aged.
In the film *Dr. Slump & Arale-chan Hoyoyo!! Tasuketa Same ni Tsurerarete...*, she joins her family on an outing to the Underwater Kingdom after Arale saves a baby shark, leading to an invitation from the shark family.
Her name references the host of the Japanese version of the children's show *Romper Room*, who was always called "Midori-sensei."
