Description
Tarō Soramame, sometimes called Butch, is the older brother of Peasuke Soramame and a close friend of Arale Norimaki and Akane Kimidori. Sporting sunglasses and smoking cigarettes since age five, he cultivates a "bad boy" image. His attempts to seem intimidating, like punching a soda can to impress Arale, contrast with his fundamentally harmless nature; he is not a bully and possesses a laid-back, easygoing personality beneath the exterior.

As a student at Penguin Village Junior High School alongside Arale, Akane, and Peasuke, he captains the baseball team. He recruits Arale after seeing her break a tree barehanded. Tarō shows consistent care for his younger brother Peasuke, helping him out of trouble and offering advice, though occasionally becoming annoyed.

After high school, he becomes a police officer, fulfilling his desire to permanently wear sunglasses and carry a gun. In a crossover with the Dragon Ball series, he attempts to arrest General Blue but is easily overpowered. Romantically, he develops a relationship with Tsururin after her arrival in Penguin Village; they eventually marry and live at Anguirus Apartments. A special camera during his school years accurately projected his future law enforcement career.

His design changes significantly in the 1997 remake, swapping his original greaser look for blonde spiked hair and softening his demeanor, reducing delinquent traits. He makes minor appearances elsewhere, including a live-action commercial standing with Peasuke outside the Coffee Pot café, and in the film *Dr. Slump Arale-chan: N-cha! From Penguin Village With Love*. He is referenced as the author of *I Used To Be A Bad Kid*.

His interactions often underscore his non-threatening character, such as failing to ride the Flying Nimbus in a Dragon Ball crossover despite trying to appear capable, reinforcing the contrast between his tough image and actual personality.
