OVA
Description
Tasuki, originally Kou Shun'u, was born on April 18th near Mount Reikaku in Kounan's western province. As the only son among five older sisters—Eimin, Fuyou, Rin'an, Manka, and Aidou—their relentless teasing and domineering ways fueled his proclaimed hatred of women. This drove him to flee home at fifteen, seeking to join Mount Reikaku's bandits. Leader Hakurou initially rejected him due to his celestial mark, but his persistence earned him a place and the moniker "Genrou" (Phantom Wolf), a nod to his superhuman speed. Under Hakurou's tutelage, he mastered martial arts, swordsmanship, archery, and wrestling. He became heir apparent after proving his ability to wield the bandits' sacred fire-emitting iron fan, the Tessen. A temporary departure to find medicine for Hakurou's illness allowed the subordinate Eiken to seize control, positioning Tasuki for his reintroduction during Miaka's search for the Suzaku warriors.

Tasuki possesses bright orange hair (gold in the manga), yellow or hazel eyes, and stands 178 cm tall. His appearance evolves: at seventeen in the main series, he wears a dark blue coat with light blue trim over a white shirt, adorned with dangling earrings and necklaces. By nineteen in the second OVA, his attire shifts to a sleeveless magenta coat, white pants, and boots, retaining his signature jewelry. At twenty-eight or twenty-nine in the third OVA and *Eikoden*, he adopts a more subdued style featuring long braided hair, a tan jacket with orange-red trim, and simpler accessories.

Personality-wise, Tasuki projects a gruff, loud exterior yet reveals deep loyalty, emotional vulnerability, and protectiveness. He openly weeps at comrades' deaths, particularly Nuriko and Chiriko, forming a brotherly bond with the younger Chiriko, who aspires to emulate him. Despite his "women-hating" persona, he demonstrates chivalry and gradually softens toward Miaka, eventually declaring he would "only hate people he hates." Loyalty defines him; he initially concealed his Suzaku warrior identity to protect the bandits, later transferring this devotion to Miaka and her fellow warriors. A significant shift occurs in the second OVA when amplified magic forces his suppressed romantic feelings for Miaka to the surface, culminating in a near-assault. His immediate shame drove him to attempt suicide with his Tessen, reflecting his rigid stance against betrayal.

His abilities include enhanced speed and fire manipulation via the Tessen, later upgraded to diamond by Taiitsukun, alongside tactical use of materialization talismans. He struggles with swimming, a weakness often mocked by Tamahome, though he briefly overcame it to save Miaka from drowning. In combat, he evolved from unleashing reckless fire blasts that endangered allies to demonstrating precise control in later OVAs.

Key relationships shape his journey: the brotherly bond with bandit Kouji, forged on Mount Reikaku; the initial rivalry with Tamahome over Miaka and combat—including a near-fatal duel when Tamahome was brainwashed—that matured into camaraderie marked by playful sparring. His protectiveness of Miaka blends platonic care and latent romantic feelings, culminating in his OVA 2 confession. In *Eikoden*, as one of the two surviving Suzaku warriors alongside Chichiri, he remains a steadfast ally in the reformed universe.
