Description
Hibari Hanakoganei serves as the primary protagonist of the anime. She is a twelve-year-old girl who has just begun attending junior high school in Akihabara, Tokyo. Physically, she is described as being 1.39 meters tall and weighing 32 kilograms, with a birthday on March 3rd. Her name, Hibari, translates to skylark, a bird known for its joyful song, which reflects her core personality.

Hibari is characterized by her incredibly pure, trusting, and optimistic nature. She is a romantic and a dreamer at heart, often getting lost in fantasies about a fairy-tale prince who she believes will one day appear in her life. While she is not particularly skilled in academics or athletics, she compensates for this with an unwavering belief in the power of love and friendship. This earnest and affectionate disposition means she cares deeply for her family, her friends, and her PataPi, though it can also make her vulnerable to the taunts of her enemies, leaving her easily distressed.

A significant part of Hibari's background involves a deep personal loss. When she was four years old, she was told she would have a baby brother, and she decided to name him Densuke. When the baby did not survive childbirth, Hibari pretended not to be hurt for the sake of her parents, who were suffering from the loss. This history explains her intense emotional attachment to her electronic pet, or PataPi, which is also named Densuke. Her parents are Tokijiro, a somewhat clumsy worker in the robot industry, and Hinako, a computer programmer who physically resembles Hibari closely.

At the beginning of the story, Hibari is one of the only girls in her class without a PataPi. This changes when the prince of her dreams appears to her in a vision and gifts her Densuke, a small, winged creature that can transform into a powerful mechanized armored form known as the Diva Aphrodite. This event sets her on the path to forming the Cyber Team alongside her best friend Suzume, as well as Tsugumi, Kamome, and eventually a girl named Tsubame. Hibari plays a crucial role in integrating Tsubame into the group; her persistent kindness and refusal to give up on the initially hostile and withdrawn girl leads to Tsubame defecting from the rival Sibyl Team and later being welcomed into Hibari’s own home as an adopted sister.

As the story progresses, Hibari’s primary motivation is finding her prince, whom she identifies as a man named Crane VanStreich. However, she is deceived by an impostor, Takashi Ryuugazaki, who uses her dream to manipulate her. A turning point occurs in the seventeenth chapter when Densuke is severely damaged. Forced to protect her partner, Hibari discovers a new ability to fuse with Aphrodite in a process called Astral Fusion, becoming a fully realized Diva. In this fused state, she gains impressive agility, protective barriers, and significant physical strength, transforming from a passive dreamer into a determined fighter capable of protecting her friends and confronting major threats. Her school uniform is replaced by a black bodysuit with pink and white armor and light pink wings during this transformation.

Hibari’s development culminates in a painful confrontation with her ideals. When the real Prince Crane finally appears, she learns that his plan requires her and her friends to leave Earth forever aboard his space fortress, the Primum Mobile. Her romantic fantasy shatters when she sees how much her parents would suffer if she left and when Crane reveals his willingness to destroy her hometown to force her compliance. Hibari courageously rejects his methods, demonstrating that she has grown from a girl who merely wanted a fantasy to a young woman who values the real, imperfect connections she has built. She chooses to stay on Earth with her family and new sister, Tsubame. In the end, Crane returns Densuke to her and acknowledges her as his "Anima Mundi" before departing, leaving Hibari with her hope restored, though tempered by the wisdom of her experience.
