TV-Series
Description
During the ten-year gap between the defeat of Unicron in the Transformers: Armada series and the events of Transformers: Energon, Jetfire was upgraded into a new and more advanced body. This new form was uploaded with the Spark of Combination, granting him the ability to Powerlinx with other compatible robots. He is depicted as a skilled and professional Autobot soldier who has fought alongside Optimus Prime in many battles. As a high-ranking officer and Optimus Prime's second-in-command, Jetfire often serves as a crucial link between the Autobot leader and the rest of the troops. He tends to project a carefree and friendly demeanor among his comrades, which makes him popular, but he becomes completely serious and focused when fighting Decepticons or Terrorcons.
Jetfire’s personality balances professionalism with a grounded friendliness. While Optimus Prime is often portrayed as cautious and reserved, Jetfire is more prone to tempered bursts of gusto and bravado. However, this confidence can sometimes border on recklessness, as he once decided to take on an entire Decepticon air force by himself, a move that got him into serious trouble and required Optimus Prime to rescue him. Despite this, he is a great teacher in the ways of battle and takes his responsibilities seriously. One of his primary personal motivations is his vow to shape the young and inexperienced Autobot Ironhide into a seasoned warrior like himself, showing his commitment to mentoring the next generation of soldiers.
In the story, Jetfire is frequently partnered with Ironhide for Powerlinx training and combat. Initially, he is less than pleased when the immature Ironhide wants to tag along on a dangerous mission to Mars solely to satisfy his hero worship of another Autobot. However, Jetfire agrees to let the youngster come after Optimus Prime leaves the decision to him. Their relationship develops as Jetfire teaches Ironhide the discipline required to successfully Powerlinx, and they eventually become an effective team on the battlefield. Jetfire is also very loyal to Optimus Prime, though he is one of the few Autobots willing to voice his concerns directly to his leader. For example, he becomes vocal about his distrust of the Decepticon defector Demolishor, fearing he might rejoin Megatron, even though Optimus dismisses these concerns.
Throughout the series, Jetfire demonstrates a thoughtful and observant nature. He confides in the human character Kicker that he envies the Omnicons because they are certain of their place in a tumultuous world filled with shifting loyalties, revealing his own internal reflections on the instability caused by the war. In combat, Jetfire is a formidable fighter and transforms into a powerful futuristic space shuttle, giving him exceptional speed and aerial dominance. His most notable ability is the Powerlinx function, which allows him to physically combine with other Autobots to form a more powerful warrior. He is specifically able to Powerlinx with Ironhide, and he can serve as either the upper or lower body of the combined form, though he is described as serving better as a lower body due to the flight power his thrusters provide.
