Mauro Bosco
Description
Mauro Bosco was an Italian actor and voice actor, recognized for his deep and distinctive voice which he lent to a wide array of characters in film, television, and anime. Born in Turin on May 12, 1938, he studied at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts Silvio D'Amico in Rome, where he was a student of the actor and voice actor Romolo Costa. His career, which spanned several decades, included both live-action roles and extensive voice work for animated series and films.
Bosco's voice became familiar to audiences of Italian-dubbed anime through his portrayals of various characters. In the anime series The Rose of Versailles, specifically in the compilation film I'll Love You As Long As I Live (Insieme per sempre), he voiced the role of General de Jarjayes, the father of the protagonist Oscar. He is also known for his work in the Transformers franchise, providing the Italian voice for the Autobot Jetfire in three interconnected series: Transformers: Armada, Transformers: Energon, and Transformers: Cybertron. In the 1996 animated film Fake, based on the manga of the same name, he voiced the character Mr. Leonard Henry. Additionally, consistent with the user's query, he voiced the character Vogler in the series Giant Robo.
Beyond these roles, his voice work was frequently chosen for antagonist characters in animation, such as the villainous McLeach in The Rescuers Down Under (Bianca e Bernie nella terra dei canguri) and Rasputin in Anastasia. He also voiced characters in other series, including Professor Moriarty in the Italian dub of Sherlock Hound and the Marquis De Silva in Jolanda, la figlia del Corsaro Nero. In addition to his work in anime, Bosco was active as a dubbing director and provided the Italian voice for live-action actors such as Adam West, William Forsythe, and Jimmy Smits. His on-screen acting career included appearances in Italian television series and films, such as I racconti del maresciallo, Il maresciallo Rocca, Don Matteo, and the Mario Bava film Five Dolls for an August Moon. Mauro Bosco passed away in December 2025 at the age of 87.
