Description
Popo is the central character and protagonist of the film. He is a small fairy boy who belongs to a race called the forest people, and he lives peacefully in a deep forest paradise shared by fairies and many kinds of insects. He is a friend to all the creatures of the forest and spends his daily life alongside them. His appearance reflects his woodland upbringing: he wears green clothes made of grass and a matching hat, and he carries an acorn-shaped pendant known as the Protector's Proof, a mysterious keepsake that his father left to him.

A red-eyed Hercules beetle under Adder's control turns on Popo and Iron Stripe, and when Mushiking rushes to protect them, he is worn down by multiple controlled beetles and captured. This event gives Popo his central motivation for the rest of the film: he must rescue Mushiking and stop Adder's scheme to take over the forest.
Driven by loyalty to his closest friend and concern for the home he loves, Popo takes an active role in confronting the danger rather than standing by.
