Description
Lacus Clyne, daughter of PLANT Supreme Council Chairman Siegel Clyne, was born on February 5, Cosmic Era 55. A Coordinator—genetically enhanced—she was later revealed to be a specific variant known as an Accord, possessing mental abilities surpassing ordinary Coordinators.

She first appeared in the public eye as a popular idol singer and cultural icon within the PLANT colonies, using her career to promote her father's moderate political ideals of peace and coexistence between Coordinators and Naturals. Engaged to Athrun Zala, son of her father's political ally Patrick Zala, the arrangement served to project unity, though their bond remained more political than romantic.

Her entry into the war began when her civilian transport, en route to the Junius Seven memorial, came under attack. Rescued by Kira Yamato and brought aboard the Earth Alliance ship Archangel, she was initially held as a hostage. Despite opposing affiliations, she treated the crew with kindness and respect. During this time, she formed a significant bond with Kira, offering him comfort in moments of emotional distress and discovering their shared connection to Athrun.

Returned to ZAFT, her perspective on the conflict shifted. When a wounded Kira was later brought to her home, she nursed him back to health. Recognizing his resolve to end the war, she enabled his theft of the prototype ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam—an act that branded her and her father traitors. Her father was subsequently assassinated on Patrick Zala's orders.

Following his death, she went into hiding and assumed leadership of the dissident Clyne Faction. She commandeered the support ship Eternal and formed the Three Ships Alliance with the Archangel and the Orb Union's Kusanagi, dedicating their efforts to stopping the war between ZAFT and the Earth Alliance by opposing extremists on both sides. Her relationship with Kira deepened into romance, and she gave him a ring before the final battle as a token and a promise for his return.

After the war, she lived discreetly with Kira at an orphanage run by Reverend Malchio in the Marshall Islands. The outbreak of a new conflict forced their relocation to Orb. An assassination attempt by Coordinator extremists prompted her return to active political involvement.

She traveled to space to assess the situation in the PLANTs and uncovered ZAFT chairman Gilbert Durandal's use of an impersonator, Meer Campbell, to manipulate public opinion. She publicly revealed the deception and worked to undermine Durandal's Destiny Plan, which sought to assign human destinies genetically. She facilitated the delivery of new mobile suits, the Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice, to Kira and Athrun to aid their fight.

In subsequent events, she rose to chairperson of the PLANT Supreme Council, and later became the first president of Compass, a global peace monitoring organization. During a joint operation with the Foundation nation against Blue Cosmos remnants, Foundation betrayed Compass. She was captured by Foundation leader Orphee Lam Tao, who revealed their shared status as Accords and his plan to implement a version of the Destiny Plan with her as his co-ruler. She rejected his advances and ideology outright. After being rescued, she co-piloted the ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam with Kira in the final battle to stop Foundation.

Initially perceived as naive and idealistic—a image amplified by her hyperfeminine and peaceful pop idol persona—this demeanor concealed a deep philosophical mind, sharp political acumen, and formidable will. A strict pacifist, she believes war stems from a cycle of retaliation caused by flaws in the human heart, and strives for a world where Naturals and Coordinators coexist willingly. She demonstrates notable strategic skill, charisma, and command ability, effectively leading factions and delegating to loyal subordinates. Her approach often involves careful observation before decisive action, and she strategically leverages her public image.

Her relationship with Athrun Zala evolved from political engagement to amicable friendship as both formed other attachments. Her bond with Kira Yamato grew from profound friendship into a primary romantic partnership, and they function as a battle couple in later conflicts. A pink, willful Haro robot, gifted by Athrun, remains a frequent companion; its catchphrase, "I won't accept that," mirrors her own inner strength and defiance.

As an Accord, she possesses limited telepathic abilities. She can also enter a state known as SEED mode, enhancing her coordination and command capabilities, allowing her to track numerous targets and link her vision with another SEED user.
