Gluttony is a Homunculus embodying gluttony. Created by Father in the manga and 2009 anime, he resulted from a failed attempt to form a new Gate of Truth. This failure left him with a False Gate within his stomach—a pitch-black extradimensional space holding everything he consumes, from blood and debris to human remains. This space has no discernible end, trapping living victims until they starve. His homunculus tattoo appears on his tongue. In the 2003 anime continuity, Dante creates him to manufacture Philosopher's Stones by condensing consumed souls. He is one of the older Homunculi there, younger than Envy and Greed but older than Pride, Lust, Wrath, and Sloth. Physically, Gluttony is a short, obese man with white pupilless eyes, a large nose, and a bald head. His signature ability involves opening his ribcage to form a massive, vertical maw lined with teeth, revealing the eye of the False Gate within. He possesses standard homunculus traits: superhuman strength, speed, regeneration, immortality, and enhanced senses, particularly smell, enabling him to track individuals across great distances. His digestive enzymes allow him to consume and break down any material, including steel. Despite these capabilities, he is notably clumsy in combat and heavily relies on his regenerative abilities. Personality-wise, Gluttony exhibits childlike simplicity and docility under normal circumstances. He frequently seeks permission to eat humans, expressing a preference for girls due to finding them "soft and tasty." Largely obedient and directionless without supervision, he demonstrates genuine affection for his siblings, especially Lust, whom he typically accompanies. He greets Greed enthusiastically upon his rebirth and shows profound sorrow upon learning of Lust's death. His innocence is highlighted by an apparent unawareness that consuming humans kills them permanently. However, he can hold grudges, furiously attacking Roy Mustang after identifying him as Lust's killer. Despite limited intelligence, he shows situational awareness, recognizing the error of consuming Envy alongside Ling Yao. In the manga and 2009 anime, Gluttony confronts Father Cornello alongside Lust. He participates in Homunculus activities, battling Scar and the Elric brothers. After Lust's death, he is captured by Edward Elric but escapes upon learning Mustang's role. Enraged, he opens his False Gate, consuming Edward, Ling Yao, and Envy. Later, weakened from repeated regenerations, he is absorbed by Father and recreated. He aids Pride in kidnapping Alphonse but is callously killed by Pride during a battle when deemed a liability, becoming the second Homunculus to die permanently. In the 2003 anime, grief over Lust's death leads Dante to lobotomize him, stripping his personality and reducing him to a mindless eating machine. This causes indiscriminate attacks, even threatening Envy and Dante. In *Conqueror of Shamballa*, his form mutates into a three-headed monstrosity leaking Philosopher's Stones. Despite erased memories, he instinctively attacks Wrath—revealing residual recognition of him as Lust's killer—before being overpowered.
