Taro Soramame, born September 24, Age 730, resides in Penguin Village as a close friend of Arale Norimaki and Akane Kimidori. He is the older brother of Peasuke Soramame and son of Kurikinton Soramame, owner of the Soramame Barber Shop. Growing up in the village, Taro took up smoking cigarettes by age five. He cultivates a "bad boy" image, frequently acting cool and rebellious while sporting sunglasses and smoking. Despite his delinquent appearance and habits, Taro remains fundamentally harmless, lacking true bully tendencies, and maintains a laid-back, easygoing demeanor. He shares a caring and supportive bond with his younger brother Peasuke, often extracting him from difficult situations and offering advice, though he occasionally teases him about his height and animal hat.
Taro first encounters Arale when she follows Akane to meet him and Peasuke after school. Attempting to intimidate her by punching a soda can, he gains respect when she breaks a tree with her bare hand. As captain of his school's baseball team, he recruits Arale to join. During his school years, teacher Midori Yamabuki disciplines him for smoking on campus.
He falls for Tsururin Tsun after her family moves to Penguin Village. Post-high school graduation, Taro joins the police force, motivated primarily by the opportunity to carry a gun and wear sunglasses professionally—an ironic career shift from his rebellious youth. As an officer, he interacts with colleagues like Gala and Pagos of the Penguin Village Police Force.
In Dragon Ball crossovers, Taro appears riding a motorcycle with Tsururin. He later attempts to ticket Akane for speeding, encountering Goku and Arale arriving on the Flying Nimbus. After both Akane and Taro fail to ride the Nimbus, Goku warns them about the Red Ribbon Army. Taro, Gala, and Pagos confront General Blue but are easily overpowered when Blue breaks their handcuffs, crushes their guns, and steals their police car. Taro subsequently joins a police operation that mistakenly shoots down King Nikochan's spaceship.
Ten years after high school, in Age 759, Taro marries Tsururin, residing at Anguirus Apartments. Future visions confirm his survival past age 75 in Age 805. During Dragon Ball's Majin Buu conflict, Taro is killed with Earth's population, later resurrected by Porunga. He dies again when Frieza destroys Earth, an event undone by Whis' temporal reversal.
In the 1997 Dr. Slump remake, Taro's appearance shifts from a greaser style to blonde spiked hair, softening his delinquent image. He participates in a tournament at Satan Mall in Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission and features in a live-action GU clothing commercial, standing with Peasuke as they watch Arale model outfits.
