Description
Kujaku, born Akira, is the son of monk Jikaku and a female Ksitigarbha (Jizō Bosatsu) pilgrim. Separated from his sister Tomoko in childhood, he was raised by Ura-Kōya, a secret Japanese Buddhist organization specializing in demon hunting and exorcism. His training was overseen by his master, Jikū Ajari, who shared Kujaku's traits of perversity and alcoholism.

He is the reincarnation of multiple divine and fallen entities, including Mahamayuri (Kujaku Myō-ō), Lucifer, and Melek Taus, granting him immense spiritual power. Despite this power and his responsibilities, his personality remains carefree, lecherous, and gluttonous. He wields a vajra in exorcisms, channeling his abilities through Tantric Buddhist practices involving chanted prayers.

His primary allies include Ashura, a girl chosen by the Asura King with pyrokinetic abilities who harbors a romantic crush on him; Tarōja Onimaru, a half-demon mercenary who transitions from rival to ally; and Huang Haifeng, a Chinese sorcerer who initially opposes him but later marries Tomoko. Kujaku's sister, Tomoko, is the incarnation of Rahu (Tenjaō) and was raised by a Neo-Nazi cult seeking to weaponize her powers. Their familial bond is central to conflicts, especially when Huang Haifeng briefly succumbs to darkness to save her.

Kujaku confronts the Rikudoshu, an evil organization led by the Teachers of Eight Leaves aiming to revive the Peacock King and Snake Queen, forcing them to battle and birth the ultimate Dark Vairocana. Key adversaries include modern-day Nazis and occult factions, such as Siegfried von Mittgard, who seek to exploit a "dragon orb" (an ancient skull artifact) to resurrect dark gods and establish a new regime. These global conflicts span locations including Japan, Germany, Tibet, and China.

His development involves unraveling his origins through Tibetan flashbacks and confronting the implications of his reincarnations. He battles inner darkness linked to his Lucifer aspect while striving to protect humanity. His journey includes rescuing Ashura from Nazi captivity, thwarting apocalyptic rituals, and preventing the dragon orb from unleashing cataclysmic evil. Despite the threats, his character balances irreverence and duty, leveraging his heritage without fully succumbing to its darker aspects.

Religious syncretism blends Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Taoism throughout his story. The Holy Grail is depicted as Jesus Christ's skull, requiring blood from the Peacock King or Snake Queen to manifest the dark Buddha. These themes underscore Kujaku's role as a nexus of cosmic forces tasked with maintaining equilibrium between light and darkness.
