Description
Gouhin is a giant panda and a licensed psychiatrist who operates a clinic in the Black Market, the seedy underbelly of the society where carnivores illegally purchase meat. Standing at 205 centimeters tall and weighing 103 kilograms, he is an imposing figure with a heavily muscular build that defies the typical cute image of a panda. His physical appearance is marked by the dangers of his profession, including several scars on his face, a damaged right eye, and most of the fur missing from his back, all sustained from attacks by violent patients.

At 39 years old, Gouhin has dedicated over a decade to working in the Black Market, acting as a self-proclaimed guardian for carnivores who have succumbed to their predatory instincts and become addicted to meat. His chosen path came at a great personal cost; five years prior to the start of the story, his wife and child left him because his work was considered far too dangerous. Despite this painful separation, he accepts their decision and finds purpose in his mission to help others. He is a medical school graduate, but his methods are far from conventional, combining psychiatric counseling with physical confrontation and even surgical procedures.

Gouhin's personality is defined by a sharp contrast between his rough, intimidating exterior and a deeply caring, principled nature. He is strict and does not hesitate to use harsh language or physical force to get through to his patients, whom he often has to subdue and capture himself. He yells, punches, and ties down those he treats, but these aggressive actions stem from a place of genuine concern and a desire to see them recover. His core motivation is a belief that any carnivore can change and that it is his role to facilitate that change, not to judge them from a position of moral superiority. Because he is a panda who naturally has no craving for meat, he feels he has no right to condemn other carnivores for their instincts and refuses to report his patients to the police, choosing instead to fight them with his own body and guide them towards rehabilitation.

Gouhin's most significant role in the story is as the mentor and surrogate father figure to the young gray wolf Legoshi. Their relationship begins when Gouhin finds a panicked Legoshi collapsed in a Black Market alley and mistakes him for a carnivore who has already eaten meat. After knocking him out and bringing him to his clinic, Gouhin provides a brutal form of shock therapy, showing him photographs of carnivores who have lost themselves to meat addiction. He delivers the crucial and unsettling insight that Legoshi's feelings for the dwarf rabbit Haru are not pure love, but a predatory instinct disguised as romantic attraction. This harsh counseling forces Legoshi to confront the dangerous nature of his own desires.

Despite his initial roughness, Gouhin becomes Legoshi's most trusted ally and teacher. He fights alongside Legoshi against the Shishigumi lion mafia to rescue Haru, single-handedly subduing numerous lion opponents. When Legoshi requests special training to become stronger without eating meat, Gouhin initially refuses but is won over by the young wolf's earnest and stubborn passion. He trains Legoshi to control his urges, builds his physical strength, and even provides practical support like creating dentures for him when his teeth are pulled. Their bond deepens to the point where Legoshi works as an assistant for him, and Gouhin, despite his gruff demeanor, shows clear signs of worry and pride in his student's growth.

Gouhin possesses a range of notable abilities that make him uniquely suited for his dangerous work. His primary strength is his immense physical power, honed through years of training and a strict diet of bamboo, which he consumes constantly to suppress any violent urges. This strength allows him to physically subdue even the largest and most aggressive carnivores. He is also a skilled hunter and fighter, proficient with an array of bamboo-themed weaponry, including a bamboo crossbow and a powerful capture net. Beyond his physical prowess, his training as a psychiatrist gives him a sharp, analytical mind capable of quickly diagnosing the psychological conflicts driving a carnivore to madness, as he does with Legoshi. His commitment to his principles is absolute, embodying a form of rough justice that prioritizes redemption over punishment. After the Black Market is eventually demolished, Gouhin transitions to a more conventional role, taking a position in the psychiatry department of a university hospital.
