Description
Lammis is the main female protagonist of the story, a young woman who works as a hunter in a fantasy world. Her background is marked by tragedy, as she once lived peacefully with her family in a hometown that was ultimately destroyed by monsters, leaving her orphaned. This event, during which she was too frightened to help her parents despite already possessing great power, remains a source of deep guilt that continues to motivate her as a hunter. Following this loss, she came to live in a different settlement and began her work as a rookie hunter.
In terms of personality, Lammis is pure-hearted, earnest, and somewhat naive. She is kind and courageous, with a strong sense of justice that drives her to protect those she cares about. Her speech is notable for its unique mixing of standard Japanese with the Kansai dialect. A quirk of her character is a significant fear of anything related to horror; scary stories can leave her unable to sleep, and genuinely frightening situations may cause her to faint, a stark contrast to her usual tough exterior. She can also be impulsive, sometimes losing herself in praise and becoming overconfident, which leads her to neglect caution. Despite this, she possesses exceptional intuition and emotional intelligence, allowing her to understand the feelings of others well.
Lammis's primary motivation stems from her past trauma and her desire to become someone who can protect the people she cares about, a mission born from her inability to save her own family. This drive is closely tied to her role in the story, which begins when she is abandoned by her hunting party and left as bait in a labyrinth. Wandering without food or hope, she encountered the vending machine protagonist, Boxxo. Despite never having seen a vending machine before, she quickly figured out how to obtain food and water from him, and he saved her life. She named him Boxxo and became his first and most loyal customer, as well as his sole means of transportation, as her immense strength allows her to easily carry his four-hundred-kilogram frame.
Her relationship with Boxxo is the most significant in her life. She treasures him deeply, valuing him as both her savior and her core companion. Their bond is nearly unbreakable; whenever they are separated, Lammis becomes extremely distraught and panicked, stopping at nothing until she finds him. She is fiercely protective of him, once furiously confronting another hunter who decided to abandon Boxxo during a dangerous event, and repeatedly refusing offers to sell him. She relies on Boxxo for both emotional support and practical needs, and she is the only person who can carry him, making them a unique and recognized team. She is also close with a fellow hunter named Hulemy, who shares a similar past of losing her family to monsters, and the two share a close bond built upon mutual understanding of that tragedy. With stories suggesting Boxxo could one day become human, Lammis is hopeful and supportive of that prospect, dreaming of sharing homemade meals and conversations with him in a human form.
Lammis undergoes significant development, particularly in mastering her unique abilities. She has a blessing known as the Blessing of Super Strength or Blessing of Might, which grants her overwhelming physical power. This power allows her to crush rocks with her bare hands, destroy tough objects with little effort, and easily shoulder Boxxo's tremendous weight. However, she initially struggled because her great strength made her attacks clumsy and ineffective. Her training involved carrying heavy stones on her back, which taught her that without a heavy weight to counterbalance her, she had difficulty channeling her power effectively. Once she began carrying Boxxo on her back, this problem was resolved, as his weight served as a perfect counterweight, dramatically improving her balance, precision, and combat potential. In battle, she fights bare-handed, using her immense strength to defeat monsters. She is also highly useful for moving debris and other heavy objects, and her strength even allows her to perform feats like climbing falling rocks.
