ONA
Description
Jonson is a creature born from the polluted environment of Hole, the human city where magic users' smoke accumulates. Originally an ordinary insect, he was mutated into a giant, human-sized being due to the magical residue in the sewer water. Despite his monstrous origins, Jonson is only two years old at the time of the story, standing 268 centimeters tall and weighing 271 kilograms. His appearance is that of an oversized cockroach with brown skin, a large black head featuring a beak-like mouth filled with human-like teeth, and strangely, a pair of worn sneakers on his feet. He also possesses wings.

In terms of personality, Jonson initially behaved as a terrifying monster, attacking anyone who wandered into his sewer territory. However, after coming under the care of Professor Kasukabe, he was trained to be docile and became notably friendly, even displaying signs of timidity or fearfulness at times. His communication is uniquely limited to a single, versatile word "Shocking" which he uses to express a wide range of emotions including surprise, joy, sadness, and determination. Jonson demonstrates intelligence and loyalty, able to understand human language and follow complex instructions from those he trusts.

Jonson was originally kept as a guard by a criminal from Hole who dreamed of becoming a magic user and would kill people to extract what he believed were valuable Black Pearls from their bodies. During a confrontation where this criminal attempted to kill Nikaido, Jonson fought with Kaiman. After the criminal was defeated, Professor Kasukabe took an interest in Jonson's unique biology, bringing him to his laboratory for study. Using radio waves that insects can perceive, Kasukabe trained Jonson and taught him manners. Following these events, Jonson became the professor's constant companion and assistant, following him into dangerous situations such as infiltrating En's mansion and traveling into the forest to find Kasukabe's wife Haru.

Jonson's primary relationship is with Professor Kasukabe, who serves as both his caretaker and partner. Kasukabe's scientific curiosity gave Jonson a purpose and a home after his original owner was gone. Jonson also interacts with Kaiman and Nikaido, initially as an enemy but later as an ally. He has demonstrated the ability to communicate with or command other cockroaches, as shown when he used them to open locks during an escape from imprisonment. Throughout these relationships, Jonson proves himself to be a reliable and robust companion who comes to his allies' aid when they are in danger.

Combat is one of Jonson's primary functions within the story, where he serves as a powerful physical asset. His massive 271-kilogram frame allows him to deliver devastating charging attacks, and his insect-derived reflexes grant him unpredictable speed and mobility that can overwhelm magic users before they have time to use their abilities. His exoskeleton is extraordinarily durable, hard enough to shatter knives that strike it and withstand attacks from characters like Kaiman. Despite his physical prowess, Jonson retains the biological weaknesses of his original insect nature. Common insecticides are fatally dangerous to him, and he is also vulnerable to cigarette smoke and other irritants. This combination of near-invulnerability in direct combat coupled with mundane vulnerabilities gives his character a distinctive balance of power and fragility.

Jonson experiences notable development from a mindless sewer monster into a loyal and valued assistant. His transformation from being used by a delusional killer to willingly accompanying a genuine scientist represents a significant shift in his role and nature. Throughout the story, he demonstrates increasing capability for cooperation and even participates in activities like playing baseball as part of Dr. Vaux's team. His evolution reflects the broader themes of the series, showing how polluted environments can produce unexpected beings capable of forming meaningful bonds with humans.
