ONA
Description
Ony Kasuga is a young physician who belongs to the UMRC, a humanitarian organization that provides medical care to soldiers from all sides without regard to faction or allegiance. He is Japanese by background and serves as a field medic on the European front during the closing period of the One Year War. He volunteered for this work out of a desire to save as many soldiers wounded in the war as possible, and he is committed to treating anyone in need, whether they fight for the Earth Federation Forces or the Principality of Zeon.
In terms of personality, Ony is gentle and mild-mannered, with a strong pacifist outlook. He believes people should be able to live peacefully without conflict, and he is deeply affected by the destruction and loss of life he witnesses on the battlefield. He frequently questions the point of the war and insists on providing aid to every wounded person he encounters, regardless of which side they belong to. His compassion is matched by a sense of bravery, as he continues his medical work in dangerous and unstable conditions.
His role in the story is that of a supporting figure. After being caught up in an attack by the Earth Federation Forces, he ends up traveling with Captain Iria Solari and her comrades as they attempt to escape the Gundam EX. Within the group, he acts as the medical caretaker, tending to the wounded and doing what he can to preserve life in desperate circumstances. His approach sets him apart from the soldiers around him, because his priority is healing rather than fighting, and he often serves as the voice of conscience among them.
His key relationships are with Iria Solari and the surviving soldiers who accompany her. He shares their struggle to stay alive, but his insistence on helping wounded soldiers from both sides can place him at odds with the military priorities of the group. Even so, he remains loyal to his principles as the situation becomes increasingly desperate, and his presence gives the soldiers a reminder of the human cost of the war they are fighting.
In terms of development, Ony's beliefs are shaped by the suffering he experiences firsthand. The tremendous damage and loss of life he witnesses throughout the conflict reinforce his pacifist convictions and his determination to save as many people as he can, even when doing so becomes difficult or dangerous.
His notable ability is his medical expertise. As a trained physician experienced in field conditions, he is able to treat injuries and provide care to the wounded in combat zones, working to stabilize soldiers from either faction. His role among the soldiers is that of a healer rather than a fighter, and his skill as a doctor is what makes him valuable to the group during their ordeal.
