TV-Series
Description
Nia Honjo is the ninth Spirit encountered in the story and is identified as the Second Spirit, having appeared on Earth after the First Spirit. She works as a popular manga artist under a pen name and is known for her distinctive appearance: short ash-gray hair, icy blue eyes, and dark red square‑framed glasses when not in her Spirit form. Her Astral Dress resembles a nun’s habit made of ink‑colored semi‑transparent fabric, with a pen‑tip collar and a manga‑panel pattern across the middle, complemented by a black veil attached to a pen and feather duster and a golden cross around the waist. Nia’s background includes being captured by DEM and falling into a comatose state before eventually being rescued. She was given her Sephira Crystal by Mio Takamiya, the original Spirit, and consequently possesses crucial knowledge about the First Spirit’s identity and location.

Initially, Nia harbored a deep distrust of humanity because her Angel allowed her to see the hidden dark side of every person, leading her to prefer fictional two‑dimensional characters over real interactions. She wore a social mask to cope with her disgust. However, after Shido Itsuka sincerely reached out to her through a doujinshi date, she began to believe in people again and underwent a marked personality shift. In everyday life, Nia is energetic, cheerful, playful, and prone to teasing others, especially Shido, whom she calls “boy.” She loves otaku culture—anime, games, and novels—and gives odd nicknames to her friends, such as calling Natsumi “Nanaka” and Reine “Reine‑nyan.” Her enthusiasm often manifests in a mischievous streak.

Nia’s motivations center on protecting the world of fiction she cherishes, but after forming genuine bonds, she also becomes driven to safeguard her new friends. Her role in the overarching narrative is significant because she holds the key to finding the First Spirit, making her a target for both DEM and the main group. She actively contributes her intelligence and knowledge to Shido’s missions. Within the circle of Spirits, Nia forms particularly close relationships with Origami Tobiichi and Miku Izayoi; the three share hobbies and are known informally as the “129 Group.” She also bonds with Natsumi, recognizing her talent as a manga artist and often dragging her into deadline work. Reine Murasame becomes Nia’s assistant, responsible for urging her to meet manuscript deadlines. Nia’s development includes reconciling with a former friend and fellow manga artist, Takajo, from whom she had become estranged after obtaining her Angel.

Nia’s principal ability is her Angel, Rasiel, also called the “Whisper Manuscript.” It excels at storing, gathering, and analyzing vast amounts of information, granting her near‑omniscience within its scope. At full capacity, Rasiel can also manipulate reality to a degree considered godlike, though Nia is naturally pacifistic and does not exploit its violent potential. As a result, her combat strength is lower than that of most other Spirits, but her intelligence parameter is the highest among them, reflecting her role as the information specialist of the group. Throughout Date A Live V, Nia continues to serve as a knowledgeable ally, using her abilities to support the team in the final confrontations.
