Description
Armadillomon is a Mammal-type Rookie Digimon with a small, armadillo-like body covered by a hard shell. Its coloration includes a yellow body and purple underside, and it has three-clawed limbs and a short tail. Armadillomon partners with Cody Hida, a serious and rule-oriented human, and its own personality is cheerful, optimistic, easygoing, and occasionally overenthusiastic. This contrast helps Cody navigate difficult situations, and Armadillomon often reaches simple conclusions that prove helpful. In Japanese portrayals, it speaks with a Nagoya dialect.

Armadillomon is one of three ancient Digimon, alongside Veemon and Hawkmon, who were sealed away by the Digimon Sovereign Azulongmon to be awakened in a time of crisis. The seal was broken when Cody discovered the Digi-Egg of Knowledge during the Digimon Emperor’s conquest, freeing Armadillomon from suspended animation. It then dedicated itself to protecting both the Digital and Real Worlds.

Armadillomon can perform Armor Digivolutions using different Digi-Eggs: with the Digi-Egg of Knowledge it becomes Digmon, the Drill of Knowledge, who excels in underground combat; with the Digi-Egg of Reliability it transforms into Submarimon, the Reliable Guardian of the Seas, who is adept in aquatic environments. Its standard evolution advances to the Champion form Ankylomon, a dinosaur-like Digimon with a powerful tail hammer. Ankylomon can then DNA Digivolve with Angemon into Shakkoumon at the Ultimate level, and in select media its Mega form is Vikemon. Armadillomon’s combat techniques include Scratch Beat, where it strikes with extended claws, and curling into a ball to ram opponents with its shell.

In the events of later stories, Armadillomon accompanies Cody during his pre-law studies and while he works part-time at a law firm. During a battle against the giant Digimon BigUkkomon, it digivolves to Ankylomon and then DNA-digivolves with Angemon into Shakkoumon, helping to sever the enemy’s tentacles. After this battle, Digivices disintegrate globally, signifying that the bonds between humans and Digimon no longer require physical devices. By the year 2027, Cody has become a defense attorney with a family, including a daughter, and Armadillomon remains his partner. It questions Cody’s career choice, leading Cody to explain his belief in redemption, a value shaped by his experiences. Armadillomon later joins Cody and his daughter at a gathering in the Digital World with other DigiDestined and their partners. In other narratives, it confronts threats such as Eosmon, testing its bond with Cody.
