TV-Series
Description
Halkara is an elf and a skilled apothecary who first appears as a central figure in the second volume of the original light novel series and its subsequent adaptations. While she has the youthful appearance of someone around twenty years old, her actual age is over two hundred, which is considered a young adult for an elf. She humorously attempts to quantify this by claiming to be seventeen years and two thousand five hundred months old. Her background is that of a graduate from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Elf Forest University, and she hails from the elf autonomous region known as the Good Branch Principality in the human territory of Frant Province.

As a character, Halkara is defined by a striking contrast between her professional success and her personal clumsiness. She is the founder and president of her own successful company, Halkara Pharmaceuticals, which manufactures and sells a popular nutritional supplement called Nutri-Spirit, a potent, alcohol-infused energy tonic. This business venture was driven by her family situation; with a father, mother, and older brother who are all notably carefree and irresponsible, Halkara became the primary provider for her household. Her sharp business intellect allows her to effectively manage production, oversee factory operations, and even market products like the edible slime treats made by Azusa.

However, outside of the boardroom, Halkara is exceptionally scatterbrained and accident-prone. Trouble seems to find her regardless of her intentions, leading to a series of comedic mishaps. She is known for simple but consequential mistakes, such as accidentally serving poisonous mushrooms at a party, which causes everyone who eats them to shrink, or consuming them herself. Despite enjoying drinking, she has a very low tolerance for alcohol and becomes tipsy easily. She also suffers from motion sickness, which initially makes traveling by dragon difficult. Her lack of physical strength and combat ability means she is entirely incapable of defending herself from danger and must rely on others for rescue.

Physically, Halkara stands out significantly among her peers. While elves from her region are typically slender, she possesses an exceptionally curvaceous figure with a large bust and wide hips. This feature, which she inherited from her mother and which is a source of insecurity for the protagonist Azusa, made her feel like an outsider in her homeland. Her lack of self-consciousness about her own attractiveness often leads to unwanted attention and awkward situations. She typically dresses in earthy tones, such as a light green blouse and a white skirt, reflecting her forest heritage.

Halkara's role in the story begins when she flees her homeland and seeks sanctuary with the immortal witch Azusa Aizawa. This flight was prompted by a misunderstanding involving the demon Beelzebub, who fell ill after consuming a large quantity of Nutri-Spirit, leading to false accusations that Halkara had tried to poison her. Fearing for her life and feeling abandoned by her own people, who distanced themselves to avoid Beelzebub's wrath, Halkara asked to become Azusa’s apprentice. After the misunderstanding was resolved, she decided to stay and formally became Azusa’s disciple, addressing her as Master, and relocated her business to the town of Nascute near Azusa’s home.

Her key relationships are primarily within Azusa’s household. She looks up to Azusa Aizawa not only as her master but also as a close friend, and while she identifies as heterosexual, she occasionally makes playful advances toward Azusa, jokingly calling herself a prey non-lesbian. The dragons Laika and Flatorte are responsible for flying her to and from her factory, as she overcame her initial motion sickness to some degree. She also has a professional rivalry with Eno, another pharmacist, and their companies frequently clash over patent disputes and market share. Her factory is also notable for being haunted by the ghost Rosalie.

Throughout her journey, Halkara experiences significant development. She learns to rebuild her pharmaceutical enterprise from the ground up under Azusa’s protection, moving past the betrayal she felt from her homeland. She gradually comes to embrace her unique physical appearance and integrates into a found family that values her despite her flaws. To help her irresponsible family become independent, she eventually sets aside her frustrations and employs them all in a new factory rebuilt in her home principality after reconciling with its lord. Her misadventures and personality are further explored as the protagonist of the spin-off novel The Elf's Meal, which chronicles her often disastrous youthful attempts to find good food and a strange journey to modern-day Japan where she met a high school-aged Azusa.

Halkara's notable abilities lie almost entirely in the fields of pharmacology and business. She is a brilliant alchemist and formulator, best known for creating the immensely popular Nutri-Spirit. Her shrewd entrepreneurial skills have made her the wealthiest member of Azusa’s social circle, and she adeptly manages multiple factories and product lines. Beyond her professional talents, she has no combat or supernatural physical abilities to speak of; her strength is entirely in her business acumen and her unintentional talent for creating chaotic situations.
