Description
Galvatron in Transformers: Age of Extinction is a man-made Transformer who serves as the reincarnation of the Decepticon leader Megatron. His origin lies in the remnants of Megatron, whose severely damaged but still living head was recovered by the human-run corporation Kinetic Solutions Incorporated, or KSI, following the battle of Chicago. KSI, led by Joshua Joyce, reverse-engineered Megatron's technology to create a new line of mass-produced, controllable Transformers for military use. Unbeknownst to the humans, Megatron's consciousness survived within his severed head, and he subtly fed his captors the technical data they needed, orchestrating the construction of a powerful new body for himself. This prototype drone, designated Galvatron, was built using a programmable matter called Transformium. While Joyce grew frustrated that the Galvatron prototype kept adopting a sinister appearance reminiscent of Megatron rather than the heroic look of Optimus Prime, this was a direct result of Megatron's own code infecting the project. Eventually, Megatron's mind fully transferred into the drone, and he accepted Galvatron as his new identity.
Personality-wise, Galvatron is cunning, patient, and ruthlessly opportunistic. He retains all of Megatron's memories, intelligence, and thirst for power but operates with a cold, calculated patience, biding his time for the perfect moment to strike. He is utterly without fear, a trait he notably proclaims to Optimus Prime. This absence of fear, combined with the belief that he has no soul, makes him a particularly cold and dangerous adversary. His primary motivation is the rebirth of the Decepticon cause and the destruction of the Autobots, especially Optimus Prime. To achieve this, he seeks to steal a powerful Cybertrelic known as the Seed, a weapon capable of transforming any matter into Transformium. With the Seed, he plans to build a massive new army of Decepticons and exact his revenge on humanity and the Autobots, whom he sees as responsible for his previous downfall.
Within the story of Age of Extinction, Galvatron initially operates under the guise of a remotely controlled drone, pretending to follow KSI’s commands during a deployment to capture Optimus Prime. However, during the ensuing battle, he displays clear signs of free will, speaking unprompted and showing a reckless disregard for civilians, which alerts Optimus to his true nature. After this encounter, his deception is exposed when the Autobot ally Brains reveals Galvatron's scheme to the human Cade Yeager. Galvatron then fully assumes control, activates all of KSI's prototype Transformers, and declares his new identity to the world. He leads his newly awakened forces in an attack on KSI’s laboratory to retrieve the Seed, and the conflict eventually moves to Hong Kong. There, his army is largely destroyed by the Autobots and their new Dinobot allies. With his plans thwarted and his forces decimated, Galvatron is forced to retreat, vowing to return and fight Optimus Prime another day, having been truly reborn.

Galvatron sees Prime as the primary obstacle to his domination and swears revenge against him. His relationship with his human creators, specifically Joshua Joyce and Harold Attinger, is purely parasitic; he manipulated them to build his body and then immediately turned on them without a second thought. He also has a brief connection with the small Autobot Brains, who is the first to discover his secret but chooses to watch Galvatron's plan unfold rather than warn his captors.
