Description
Juanita is a character who appears in the Pokémon movie Pokémon the Movie: White - Victini and Zekrom, as well as its companion film Pokémon the Movie: Black - Victini and Reshiram. She is a resident of Eindoak Town and is the mother of both Damon and Carlita. Her background is deeply tied to the land, as she is a descendant of the People of the Vale, the ancient civilization that once thrived in the area around Eindoak Town. This heritage informs much of her character and her actions throughout the story.

In terms of her daily life, Juanita runs a small, mobile souvenir shop in Eindoak Town, often during the town's Harvest Festival. She sells a variety of accessories and trinkets, many of which are themed after the legendary Pokémon Victini, whose story is closely connected to the town's history. Her knowledge of local legends and the history of her ancestors is extensive, and she willingly shares these stories with travelers and customers. Assisting her with the shop and other tasks is her partner Pokémon, a powerful Golurk.

Juanita’s personality is that of a caring but also deeply nostalgic individual. As a descendant of the People of the Vale, she feels a strong sense of longing for the kingdom's former glory and a sadness that the land of her ancestors now lies barren. When her son Damon was young, she would take him to visit the ruins of the Kingdom of the Vale, expressing her wish to see it revived one day. This wish became a powerful dream for the young Damon, who ultimately dedicates himself to restoring the kingdom. Initially, when Damon reveals his elaborate plan to achieve this goal, Juanita supports him, understanding the sentiment behind his ambition.

However, her motivations shift once she learns the practical consequences of her son's plan. Through the protagonist Ash, she discovers that the process of activating the ancient technology of the Sword of the Vale is causing the legendary Victini to suffer and that the plan endangers the wider world. Faced with this knowledge, Juanita’s maternal care and inherent sense of right and wrong compel her to act against her own child. Feeling a sense of shame for his actions, she attempts to stop Damon personally, using her Golurk to fight against the legendary dragon Pokémon he commands. When this fails, she advises Ash that the only way to oppose Damon is to seek the help of the opposing legendary dragon.

Juanita's key relationships are central to her role in the narrative. Her relationship with Damon is the most critical. She is the source of his original dream, yet she becomes his primary moral opposition when he goes too far. Her relationship with her daughter, Carlita, is also present, as they both initially stand by Damon before turning against his methods. Later in the story, after Damon's plan goes awry, Juanita’s maternal love overrides her opposition; she sends her Golurk to rescue him from falling to his death, proving that her care for her son remains intact even when she disagrees with his choices. By the end of the film, she is seen encouraging him to fulfill their shared dream in a new, less destructive way, by helping to build a new kingdom rather than resurrecting the old one through dangerous means.

As for development, Juanita’s arc sees her transition from a nostalgic dreamer and supportive mother to a determined opponent of her son’s dangerous path, and finally to a forgiving parent who helps him find a better way. As a descendant of the People of the Vale, she is also a keeper of knowledge, which she uses to inform both Damon and Ash about the legend of Victini and the protective barrier around the town.

Her most notable ability is not a personal one but her strong partnership with her Golurk. This Pokémon is not only a loyal assistant for her business but also a formidable battler. Juanita uses Golurk in a direct attempt to stop Damon, demonstrating its combat capabilities, including moves like Hyper Beam, Fly, and Gyro Ball. An interesting detail about her Golurk is that its coloration changes depending on the version of the movie. In Pokémon the Movie: White - Victini and Zekrom, the Golurk is its normal color, while in Pokémon the Movie: Black - Victini and Reshiram, it is Shiny, or variocolor, with a different color palette. Ultimately, Juanita serves as a character whose deep love for her family and her heritage is tested, forcing her to choose between supporting a dream and preventing a disaster.
