Description
In the Antoiru Kingdom, where the royal family is cursed to never bear male heirs, First Princess Nortima has been raised from a young age to be the next queen. She endures a grueling education, sacrificing her entire childhood and being made to work like a servant, all in preparation for her future role. Her only support is her fiance Vince, who was supposed to stand by her side as king consort. One day, however, she discovers Vince embracing her younger sister, Elze. The two reveal they are in love and directly ask Nortima to disappear as she is an obstacle to their happiness. Broken by this betrayal, Nortima agrees to vanish. She writes a final letter, essentially a farewell message, and leaves the palace.
Nortima is pursued by guards sent after her and is eventually cornered at the top of a cliff overlooking a lake. Believing she has nothing left to live for, she jumps, intending to end her life. But instead of dying, a mysterious boy appears and extends a hand to save her. This rescue marks the beginning of her new life, pulling her away from the kingdom that rejected her. Soon after, the kingdom falls into confusion over the disappearance of the first princess, while her sister Elze and Vince begin to face the consequences of their actions.
Nortima then starts a journey with the boy who saved her, whose name is Ester. He is a puzzling figure, a child who seems much too knowledgeable and capable for his age. As they travel together, the simple act of eating and having a place to belong begins to heal both her heart and her body. Along the way, the complexities of the kingdom come to light, including an ancient curse placed on the royal family by the spirits due to the foolish actions of a past king, as well as a twisted curse of love that afflicts the royal women. Meanwhile, back at the palace, Queen Elze, the mother, is furious over the failures of the second princess, Elze.
As Nortima and Ester continue their escape, the truth about her companion is revealed. The boy has another face or a hidden identity, and he is eventually captured as a criminal by the kingdom. However, Nortima refuses to comply quietly and sets out to rescue him. Their journey brings them into direct negotiation with the royal family. In the end, the curse that plagues the family reaches a crisis point, and the kingdom is forced to reckon with its treatment of the discarded princess. After a series of events that include a disastrous coronation, the royal family is presented with two conditions for their survival. Ultimately, the princess who was never chosen by her family or her kingdom finally finds where she belongs and carves out a new happiness for herself.
