Description
Kaede Kikui is a young woman whose greatest desire is to live a normal life. Uncomfortable with the unwanted attention from her current boss, she is in the middle of job hunting when a chance encounter changes everything. She meets Rai Shinozaki, a strikingly handsome and well-dressed executive, whose fox ears and tail mark him as anything but human. Rai bluntly informs Kaede that she is leaking spiritual energy like a busted pipe, accuses her of being an exhibitionist for unconsciously attracting supernatural attention, and then offers her a position at his company on the spot.

The bizarre offer leads Kaede to Ayakashi Career and Moving Services, a unique business run by Rai in modern-day Japan. The company is devoted to helping ayakashi, the supernatural beings of Japanese folklore, find work, relocate, and build a community for themselves in the human realm as their old haunts and legends fade away. As Kaede takes on her new role, she is thrust into a world of spirits and monsters struggling with the same mundane problems as humans, from employment to loneliness, all while learning to navigate her own newly awakened ability to see them.

The central narrative is a supernatural romance that quickly reveals a deeper, more tragic history. Rai’s sudden and intense interest in Kaede is not a coincidence. His reason for seeking her out dates back centuries to the Sengoku Era, where he shared a profound connection with one of her past lives. The story follows Kaede as she interacts with a variety of ayakashi clients, such as the nekomata Yoru who mourns the passing of loved ones and iso-onna who struggle to hide their true nature, while she slowly uncovers the truth about her own reincarnated soul and her destined bond with the fox spirit.

The light novel is a complete, single-volume story that blends workplace comedy with bittersweet romance. The plot balances episodic encounters with supernatural clients against an overarching arc about lost love, reincarnation, and what it truly means to be normal. As Kaede helps other ayakashi find their place in a world that no longer seems to have room for them, she must ultimately decide for herself whether a normal human life is what she really wants, or if she is willing to embrace the extraordinary, centuries-old bond that ties her fate to Rai Shinozaki.
