Description
Decades after saving the world from the Demon Lord, the legendary band of heroes now live in quiet, peaceful retirement. Ferd the Hero and his wife Elrica the Saint, both in their nineties, know their remaining time is short. Wanting one last adventure together, Ferd decides he wants to reunite with his old comrades one final time and meet his great-grandchild, who lives abroad on another continent. Accompanied by Elrica, he sets off on a transcontinental journey.
Their quest soon reunites them with the other surviving members of their original party, including a drunken swordsman and his witch wife, a bald, muscle-obsessed monk, and a deceptive merchant who constantly changes his name. Though age has grayed their hair and slowed their steps, their power has not faded. The world may no longer recognize their faces, but history remembers their deeds, or at least a distorted version of them recorded in textbooks. As they travel, these elderly legends encounter the next generation of adventurers and students who look up to them as living myths, often leading to humorous situations where their true strength surprises those who mistake them for feeble elders.
Their journey takes them to the Academic City-State of Greer, home to a prestigious Magic Academy and the Magic Council, where they plan to visit Sazaki and Lara's son and great-grandson, Connie. The city holds old connections for Lara, including a past she would rather avoid. At the academy, the heroes observe classes and interact with young students, including Connie and his friends. However, wherever legends tread, trouble follows. The party soon finds themselves drawn into a confrontation involving a Lotus-Eater Machine that traps individuals in idealized illusions of past battles. This magical trap forces the heroes to refight old conflicts with rewritten, inferior scripts, testing their resolve and power against a threat that exploits nostalgia and regret. As they confront these distorted memories, they also face shadows from the past, including an ominous mentor figure and references to a terrible country that sat out the original war. Though they save the day, the experience pushes them into more direct combat than they anticipated, reminding them that the job of a hero is never truly done even in retirement. They continue their journey onward, leaving behind young potential heroes who may one day write their own stories, as Ferd and his companions press forward toward their final, elusive goal of meeting their great-grandchild.
