Description
Kaede Yakumo, a seventeen-year-old high school student, wakes up in an unfamiliar world populated by beastfolk, elves, and dragons. With only her backpack and no clear explanation for how she arrived, she wanders aimlessly until she discovers a strange book inside her bag. The book contains recipes for potions and a single instruction: say the word Create. When she follows the instruction, the process works exactly as described, allowing her to brew potions simply by gathering the necessary materials and speaking the command.

Armed with this newfound ability, Kaede decides to build a life for herself in this fantasy world. She sells her potions to earn money and manages to establish a peaceful existence. The book encourages her to treat her new circumstances as a game, and she adopts that mindset while navigating the challenges of her surroundings. Her initial goal is twofold: use her potion-making skills to survive and eventually find whoever transported her to this world so she can return home.

The story shifts when Kaede crosses paths with a traveling party. This chance encounter leads to a series of developments involving dragons and difficult choices she never anticipated facing. Her peaceful routine as a potion seller gives way to larger adventures and unexpected responsibilities.

Kaede is a resourceful and determined protagonist who relies on her wits rather than combat skills. The mysterious book remains central to her abilities, and she must gather materials to craft different potions with varying effects. The fantasy setting includes typical isekai elements such as diverse races, magic, and dangerous creatures, though Kaedes power is narrowly focused on potion creation rather than broad magical abilities.

The light novel series, written by Akira Iwafune with illustrations by Sunaho Tobe, originally began as a web novel serialized from April 2014 to September 2024. Shufunotomo has published eleven volumes under its Hero Bunko imprint since April 2015. An English language release has been licensed for the series. The narrative follows Kaedes journey from a lost and confused newcomer to an established figure in the other world, with her potion-making serving as both her livelihood and the key to the adventures that await her.
