At the age of six, a boy named Ed living in another world's slums suddenly recalls his past life as a person from modern Japan. His current existence is one of severe poverty, shared with his childhood friend Miinya, a girl who lives in the same space and eats the same meager meals. Their daily food consists almost entirely of boiled beans. Drawing upon the knowledge from his previous life, Ed begins to identify edible wild plants and leaves suitable for brewing tea, hoping to improve their situation. His goal is not grand adventure but a slow, self-sufficient life, and so he starts a daily routine of gathering and hunting for food.

The story follows Ed as he navigates the harsh realities of slum life, using his past-life wisdom to survive and gradually improve his standing. The central conflict arises from the struggle against poverty and the need to secure food, shelter, and a stable future from a starting point of absolute destitution.
