Description
Born into the Kugu family, which has inherited the power of purification for generations, Yuzuki is one of a pair of twin shrine maidens. Marked by a dragon-shaped birthmark on her back, her abilities far surpass those of her younger sister, Mizuki, yet the mark is considered unlucky. Consequently, Yuzuki’s existence is concealed, and she is cruelly mistreated, forced to serve merely as a tool for her power while Mizuki poses as the true shrine maiden princess and receives the villagers’ devotion.
Exhausted and longing for freedom, Yuzuki is quietly drawn to a mysterious voice she has heard since childhood. When she realizes her hope for freedom will never be granted, her despair seems to answer a terrible call, and a curse god in the form of a sky-covering dragon descends upon the village. Forcibly offered as a sacrifice in her sister’s place, Yuzuki experiences fragments of memories from a past life flashing through her mind. The Dragon God, Seyutsu Aotama Shu, appears before her in human form, holds her close, and declares, I will never let you go again. You are my one and only bride.
Rescued from the depths of despair, Yuzuki is welcomed into the Dragon God’s mansion as his beloved bride. This life grants her the first taste of freedom she has ever known, having lived her entire life in the shadow of her sister, never knowing the outside world. She learns that the mysterious voice from her childhood belongs to Seyutsu Aotama Shu and that his vow to never let her go again stems from a promise made in a past life where they could not be together. Yuzuki delights in their reunion and is drawn to his kindness in not forcing his own feelings upon her.
However, their happiness is threatened by those who seek to tear them apart. Monsters begin attacking the village, and Mizuki, who had previously taken everything from Yuzuki, sets her sights on manipulating her fiancé, Keitaro Shirakaba, to further her own schemes. As if reincarnation itself is trying to prevent their union, a new conflict arises, forcing Yuzuki and the Dragon God to transcend their previous life to protect the love they have finally found.
