Description
In a world where every person receives a unique skill from the goddess upon turning fifteen, a poor orphan named Mel Lylute awakens his ability. While many receive common or modest talents, Mel is granted the Appraisal skill. This power is not ordinary; its rank is beyond the mythical S-Rank, placed at the non-existent EX tier, earning it the nickname God's Eye. This ability allows Mel to read detailed information about any object or person, including their statistics, hidden abilities, thoughts, and even their intent.
However, this extraordinary power immediately becomes a curse. The Appraisal skill can inadvertently expose the true identities of criminals and villains who wish to remain hidden. Recognizing the threat Mel poses, a group of such individuals quickly moves to assassinate him. Mel manages to turn the tables on his attackers and survives, but the incident forces him into a life on the run.
Forced to flee, Mel embarks on a journey to his homeland. He is accompanied by his childhood friend Silphy, an elven princess who has lost her memories, and Clara, a tiger beastwoman. As Mel travels, he fully realizes the true cheat-like nature of his skill. He discovers he can use Appraisal not just to analyze his opponents but to read and steal the powerful abilities of legendary heroes from the past, integrating them into his own repertoire.
The narrative follows Mel as he is pushed from one dangerous situation to the next, slowly uncovering a larger plot unfolding in the background. Key arcs include the initial awakening and subsequent attack that sets him on his path, the recruitment of his companions Silphy and Clara, and the emotional challenge of helping Silphy confront her lost memories, which involves a difficult choice with existential implications for her identity. Throughout these events, Mel uses his ever-growing arsenal of stolen legendary skills to fight for his friends and explore the mysteries of the world, steadily ascending as an unlikely but formidable hero.
