By 1955, Japan has mostly recovered from the war, but the entertainment landscape has shifted dramatically. As new forms of entertainment gain popularity, traditional rakugo storytelling sees its audience decline. Amidst this crisis, a handsome young man named Hananoya Umenojo bursts onto the rakugo scene like a comet, drawing packed crowds to his performances every day. Though treated kindly by audiences and hosts alike, Umenojo critically lacks one essential quality as a rakugo performer. His story becomes intertwined with that of a girl who possesses genuine talent for the art but is unable to step onto the stage due to the circumstances surrounding her. Together, these two young people risk their lives for laughter, fighting to navigate the rough seas of talent and tradition in the post-war era.
