Description
A master swordsman named Rix, weary of endless bloodshed on the battlefield, fakes his own death to escape that life and seek a peaceful existence. Hoping to change his path entirely, he enrolls in the prestigious Estoria Magic Academy, only to discover he possesses absolutely zero aptitude for magic. Undeterred, he resolves to survive using only his physical prowess and combat skills, setting his sights on a quiet, joyful school life. The story follows Rix as he navigates an environment where he is considered an anomaly, clashing with students and faculty alike while forming unexpected bonds.
The primary setting is Estoria Magic Academy, a fantasy world institution where magic is the central focus of study and social standing. Rix is the protagonist, a pragmatic and skilled former mercenary whose dream of a peaceful life is constantly threatened by his own abilities and the conspiracies around him. Shino is a scholarship student and Rix's de facto classmate; she is cold and distant for reasons tied to her true identity as the reincarnation of the Twilight Demon Lord, Shenora. Serephina is an imperial princess who becomes fixated on Rix's combat talent, repeatedly attempting to recruit him into the military against his wishes. Other key figures include Tran, a dragon who was Rix's comrade from his mercenary days and whom he eventually contracts as a summon, and Rutil, the student council president who takes an interest in him.
The narrative unfolds across several arcs. The introductory arc establishes Rix starting his new life at the academy, immediately subverting expectations by using swordplay to overcome magical challenges, which draws the attention of Princess Serephina. In the second volume, Rix faces expulsion due to his poor academic record, a problem compounded by the arrival of his dragon "little sister" Tran, who tries to force him back to their old life, leading to a new contract between them. A subsequent arc sees Rix recruited into the student council by the enigmatic president Rutil, a move that brings political intrigue and Serephina's jealousy to the forefront. In the fourth volume, Rix enters the Dardrick Magic Tournament as a last-ditch effort to earn enough credits to stay in school. There, he meets a mysterious mage named Lia, who becomes his rival. Competing in the tournament, Rix is drawn into a plot by the Prayer Faction, a group seeking to revive the Twilight Demon Lord. This forces a confrontation with Shino, who reveals herself as the Demon Lord Shenora. The arc culminates in the revelation that Rix is not a reincarnation but a creation, a doll-like fake designed in the image of the original Dawn Swordsman for the sole purpose of saving Shenora. Rejecting his predetermined role, Rix forges his own identity, deciding not to fight for the Demon Lord of the past but to save his friend Shino in the present, awakening a new power born from his genuine desire for a peaceful life.
