The story begins when a group of university students from a supernatural club sets out to explore the ruins of a pre-World War II village in the mountain wilderness. Caught in a sudden thunderstorm, they lose their way until a mysterious young girl appears and offers to guide them to her village so one of the injured members, a girl named Reina, can receive treatment. The students are led to a secluded mansion run by an eerie woman named Touko Kamiya, who welcomes them with a horrifying meal consisting of teeth, hair, eyeballs, and other human remains.

What follows is a brutal and gruesome sequence as the students are captured, dismembered, and fed to Touko's daughter, Kiriko, who exists as a living patchwork doll assembled from the body parts of those who disappear on the mountain. The early chapters function as interconnected vignettes showing various victims who encounter the village, including a reporter for a supernatural magazine and a woman researching local folktales. Kirikos own tragic history unfolds through the story. Her mother, Touko, fell in love with a samurai and became pregnant, but when she fell ill during the pregnancy, the villagers believed she was cursed. The samurai rejected both mother and child when Kiriko was born malformed, attempting to kill them. Touko escaped into the mountains with her infant daughter, where she discovered or created a supernatural means to keep Kiriko alive by stitching together body parts taken from outsiders. This motherly devotion twists into obsession as Touko perpetuates the cycle of violence to continuously remake Kiriko into the most beautiful woman possible.

As Minato investigates the secrets of the mansion and the true nature of the healing or stitching power that sustains the village, he uncovers contradictions within the horror. What initially appears as sorcerous body modification reveals something else an entity with its own will that can heal wounds instantly, raising questions about why the villagers continue harvesting body parts from outsiders at all. This power eventually manifests as a separate monstrous entity in the final chapters, transforming the story from a Frankenstein-like tale of stitched corpses into something more supernatural.

The climax centers on the wedding ceremony between Minato and Kiriko, where Kirikos own desires diverge from her mothers plans.
