Rita, a lonely young man who feels he has no place in his village, is chosen by local custom to become the Dragon’s Bride, a sacrifice to the mythical creature said to live on the snowy mountain. The ancient legend of the Snowy Mountain Dragon has faded over time, and Rita accepts his fate with the painful awareness that his sacrifice will also reduce the number of mouths his impoverished village must feed.

Left alone to freeze in a blizzard as part of the ritual, Rita is saved not by a monstrous beast, but by Ignat, a beautiful and silent dragon who takes on a human form. Rita is overjoyed to discover the dragon is real and hopes to fulfill his role as a bride, but Ignat coldly rejects him, stating he does not need a bride. Despite this rejection, Rita refuses to give up and begins to learn the secret of an ancient ritual that can turn humans into dragons.
