Yachiru is a Hasshakusama youkai living in the human world. Her kind is traditionally known as a tall, terrifying spirit, but the current public image of Hasshakusama has shifted toward being lewd rather than scary. As a result, Yachiru’s powers have weakened and her height has shrunk from its original eight shaku, approximately 240 centimeters, down to about 190 centimeters. She struggles daily to correct this mistaken impression and restore her true form, but every attempt ends in failure.

While at a cinema studying horror films to better understand how to be frightening, Yachiru meets Seiichirou, a young man who is a huge fan of Hasshakusama. Through this encounter, she makes a startling discovery. Whenever Seiichirou offers her genuine praise, her height temporarily returns to its original eight shaku size. This unexpected reaction creates a unique bond between the youkai and the human, as his admiration directly fuels her supernatural power.

The story follows Yachiru navigating daily life in the human world while managing this peculiar condition. Each moment of praise from Seiichirou triggers her growth, allowing her to regain her intimidating stature. These scenes explore the developing relationship between the gentle youkai and her devoted admirer. Early chapters focus on establishing this dynamic, showing how Yachiru gradually discovers the extent of this phenomenon while encountering others who become aware of her secret.

The series sets its premise in contemporary Japan, with Yachiru attempting to blend in despite her unusual nature. Her core conflict balances two intertwined goals: restoring the fearsome reputation of Hasshakusama and understanding the growing connection with Seiichirou that makes her transformation possible. The narrative combines supernatural elements with romantic comedy, as Yachiru must navigate both her identity as a youkai and the human relationships that now affect her very physical form.
