Illustrator Kyoko moves into a surprisingly affordable apartment in Tokyo, only to discover the low rent is due to the ghost that lives there. The spirit is named Ambrose, a British gentleman with exceptional housekeeping skills who is bound to the property. This begins their strange and cheerful cohabitation. The story follows their daily life together as the mystery of Ambrose's lingering regrets and unresolved attachment to the world gradually comes to light. Just as the truth about his past becomes clearer, Kyoko finds herself in grave danger.
