In a world long since devastated by humanity, plants and animals have all but vanished. The remaining patches of greenery are hidden sanctuaries, secret havens where witches live in seclusion. These witches are women who possess the rare ability to communicate with nature, a power that has made them feared and hunted by ordinary humans who blame them for the world's ecological collapse.

The story follows Pili, a fifteen-year-old witch apprentice who struggles to hear the language of plants, known as amurds. She lives with her adoptive mentor, Toura, in a hidden glen bursting with life. When Toura falls gravely ill, a desperate Pili ventures into the barren human world to find medicine. There, she is tricked by Zakum, a cruel scientist who despises witches and covets their power over nature. Pili unwittingly leads him back to her home, where Zakum attacks the sanctuary, kills Toura, and destroys their haven. In the chaos, Pili manages to plant a magical seed, from which a powerful wolf-like amurd named Oak is born. Bound to protect her, Oak helps Pili escape, and she sets out on a perilous journey to fulfill her mentor’s final wish: to find Eden, a mythical refuge where the most elite witches live.

Volume 1 follows Pili as she travels across a vast, rocky wasteland with Oak. Unaccustomed to the outside world, she is injured and rescued by a kind village boy named Bowei. However, her presence quickly arouses suspicion among the villagers, who recognize her as a witch. As captured witches face certain execution, Pili must rely on her wits and the protective instincts of Oak to survive the hostile human world she has only just begun to understand.

In subsequent volumes, Pili’s journey becomes a harsh education in survival. Accompanied by Oak, she meets another traveling witch named Laminala, who teaches her that the world is far more merciless than she ever imagined. Pili is forced to challenge her own trusting nature and learn the brutal necessities of living in a barren land. Later, following the voice of amurd spirits, she discovers a hidden alcove of witches in the mountains. While there, she encounters a grieving young girl whose raw, emotional power spirals out of control. The outburst attracts the attention of witch-hunting soldiers, forcing Pili to make a desperate choice to act as a decoy. Racing against time, she must risk her own freedom and life to allow the other witches to escape, all while continuing her obsessive quest for the legendary Eden.
