Description
Princess Rosely’s peaceful life in the castle of Altodias ends the moment she picks up a sword to fight an evil wizard. The legendary blade Lucilys, the Sword of Light, chooses her as its heiress, setting off a chain of tragedy that tears her family apart. She loses everyone she loves and is separated from her twin brother Rolant, the heir of Silvan, the Sword of the Moon. Left for dead and floating in a cold river, Rosely is rescued by the handsome green-eyed king of the Alf, the fairies of Alfheim. Raised as his foster daughter in the magical realm, she trains relentlessly in swordplay and sorcery, driven by the hope of avenging her fallen kingdom and uncovering the mastermind behind her misfortune. The tale also involves the search for the owner of Soles, the Sword of Sunshine, the third of three ancient magic swords.
Alfheim no Kishi Ballad is a side story that continues the universe of the main series. One narrative arc, The Dragon Sleeping in the Golden Green Valley, follows Melilot, the second princess of the Wind City. She is ordered by her father, King Roland, to travel to the Valley of the Golden Green accompanied by the white wizard Robin. Another part of the Ballad series, Guardian of Successive Visions, is set after the incident in Harrisburg, when the land of Altodias has regained its peace. However, mutated beasts begin attacking the people. Robin, who has been treating these creatures in the old castle of Altodias, takes a certain beastmaster’s child as his apprentice. A soft epilogue volume, simply titled Fairyland Knight Ballad, reveals the lives of characters Rolan, Rori, and Asa after they overcome the Lord of Darkness. Later entries shift focus to a new protagonist, a girl named Tsugumi who lives in a small village and discovers she possesses special magical abilities that make her a key figure in a battle threatening the world’s balance.
