In the year 2160, the Soviet Union never collapsed. Two centuries of continuous Cold War have transformed Moscow into a decaying cyberpunk dystopia where the streets belong to augmented gangsters and cyborgs, while government factions, spies, and the mafia wage a shadow war among the neon-drenched cables and brutalist architecture. The concepts of freedom, truth, and prosperity have long since vanished, leaving behind only exhaustion and a grinding will to survive.

The central figure is Danila Kuragin, a 24-year-old lone wolf known as a cleaner, a disposable asset who works as a state-sanctioned hitman. Unlike the heavily augmented criminals he hunts, Danila relies on his natural flesh and an antique PPSh-41 submachine gun, upgraded with super-steel to penetrate cybernetic armor. He takes on these deadly contracts for a single, seemingly impossible goal: to earn 100 million rubles to buy his lover, Stasha, out of servitude from her procurer. Stasha is a celebrated ballerina who holds the title of Miss Moscow, but economic desperation forces her to work nights as an elite prostitute. Danila’s dedication extends to his adoptive family as well, a younger brother and two sisters—including Maria, who supports his missions as a hacker, and Nora, who has traded her flesh for a metallic claw.

The narrative follows Danila through the grim underbelly of Moscow as he undertakes high-risk assignments. A significant arc begins when he is hired to protect Elena Tachibana, a deputy in charge of the public finances, from a death squad sent by a rival secret police faction competing with the KGB for budget control. The mission draws him into a deeper conspiracy that forces him to navigate treacherous alliances and violent confrontations across the city’s dangerous districts, from ghettos abandoned by the state to the towering Ostankino complex, which serves as the central nervous system for the metropolis. As the story progresses, glimpses of Danila’s brutal childhood as an orphan in the city’s subterranean tunnels reveal how becoming a killer became his only path to survival.
