Manga
Description
After a visiting prince insults her garden, the impulsive young noblewoman Mira slaps him so hard he falls to the ground. Her moment of justified anger earns her a death sentence. Mira awakens not in the afterlife, but in the legendary ghost manor, very much alive. The master of this eerie castle reveals that her survival is inexplicable, yet he immediately presents her with an inescapable demand: she must marry him.

Mira finds herself confined to the manor and officially pronounced dead to the outside world, leaving her with no real avenue for escape. The master, whose family possesses the hereditary ability to control malevolent spirits and trap them within the manor, needs a bride to help him manage his draining, often bloody duties. The process of containing ghosts takes a heavy toll on his stamina, and his desperation for a partner becomes increasingly clear as Mira learns more about her new life.

Despite her husband’s traps designed to keep intruders out and, apparently, unwilling brides in, Mira spends much of her early days attempting to flee. However, she slowly learns the truth about the ghosts that inhabit the manor and her husband’s solemn responsibility. Reluctantly accepting her role, she agrees to stay and assist him, even as she begins to regret the terrifying and often dangerous situations she must now face. Her presence gradually becomes a positive influence, pushing her mysterious husband to take better care of himself.

The story blends a creepy, gothic atmosphere with a developing romance, driven by the gap between the husband's fearsome reputation as a villain and his actions as a caring partner. Key moments see Mira getting possessed by a ghost, which becomes a catalyst for the couple to grow closer. She also overcomes her fears to rescue her husband when he is vulnerable, forming bonds with other supernatural residents, including sad ghost animals and a child spirit whose awakening introduces new layers to the manor's mysteries. The manga, written by Yuki Shibamiya, was serialized in Hana to Yume from December 2023 to August 2025.
