Description
People who die before ever falling in love are given a second chance. Rescued by the Goddess of Love, they are reborn as cupids, immortal beings tasked with creating romantic matches among the living. However, the era of bows and arrows is long over. These modern cupids carry out their missions with pistols, rifles, grenades, and machine guns, all while remaining invisible to human eyes. By successfully helping couples come together, a cupid earns karma, with the ultimate reward being the chance to return to human life and experience love for themselves.
The story centers on Koharu, a fifteen-year-old girl who died in an accident just after her best friend, Aki, confessed her feelings to her. Five years after her death, Koharu is reborn as a cupid and joins a small squad of similarly reincarnated girls. Her teammates include the laid-back and protective Kanna, who wields a grenade launcher; the focused and logical Ena, who prefers an assault rifle; and the energetic and combative Chiyo, who uses a submachine gun and often turns mission strategy into an excuse for a gunfight. Although cupids cannot feel romantic love themselves—being hit by a love bullet causes them anguish rather than affection—Koharu finds purpose in her new role, leveraging the matchmaking skills she had in life.
The first major narrative arc revolves around Koharu’s first true assignment: helping Aki, the girl she saved just before dying, move on from her grief. Still mourning Koharu five years later, Aki has isolated herself and refuses to love again. Koharu must use her skills to find a compatible partner for her former best friend, a mission that forces her to confront her own loss. This arc establishes that love bullets can only spark a connection that already exists, making careful reconnaissance and understanding of a target’s life essential to the job. Later missions see the squad tackling volatile love triangles and other romantic complications, all while navigating the competitive dynamics among cupids who sometimes prioritize their own karma scores over the quality of the matches they create.
