Description
Violetta, a duke's daughter, catches her fiancé Prince Ivan cheating with her best friend Therese. She publicly breaks off the engagement and, drowning her sorrows, drinks heavily that night. When she wakes up, she finds herself in bed with a handsome nobleman she does not remember meeting. He is Leandre, a duke known for his hatred of women and icy demeanor. Mortified by her actions, Violetta decides to pretend this notorious woman-hater is her new lover to save face and convince her protective father she has moved on.
The story takes place in a noble society with strict social expectations, though it incorporates elements of comedy and modern sensibility. The initial premise of a drunken mistake leading to a fake engagement quickly develops into something more complex. As Violetta and Leandre maintain their charade, it becomes clear that their one-night encounter was not a random accident. The narrative reveals that the pair share a hidden history dating back to their childhood, a connection that Violetta has completely forgotten due to a past head injury. Leandre, who is not as cold as he appears, has carried a torch for her for years, and his fear of women stems from a severe trauma in his past.
A significant arc involves the unraveling of Therese's true nature. While initially appearing as a simple betrayal trope, Therese is eventually revealed to be a more nuanced character whose actions were driven by a complex and ultimately admirable motive, subverting reader expectations. The story concludes in two volumes, resolving the mystery of Violetta's lost memories, explaining Leandres disdain for women, and establishing a sincere relationship between the pair as they overcome the schemes of the former fiancé and find happiness.
