Description
Amy, a young girl from Los Angeles, is uprooted from her life in the United States when her mother takes her to live in Yokohama, Japan. Rather than feeling lonely or resentful, Amy embraces the move as an adventure in a country she has only seen in movies and anime. She moves in with her grandmother, a painter and teacher whose home is filled with art and music, and who encourages Amy to explore her own creativity. Amy quickly takes to her new environment, riding her skateboard, learning to play the guitar with her uncle, and befriending a Siamese kitten she names Chuck.
At school, Amy's outgoing and expressive personality draws the attention of a shy classmate named Kenta. Her unguarded joy and willingness to try new things inspire Kenta to begin opening up and expressing himself more freely. The story follows Amy as she navigates the everyday wonders and small challenges of life in a new country on the cusp of adolescence.
Beneath the surface of Amy's excitement lies a deeper narrative tension. As she settles into her new life, she begins to uncover the real reason her mother sent her to Japan, forcing her to confront whether this move is a temporary arrangement or a permanent change. The manga captures a single, dreamlike period of youth, framed as a memory of a town surrounded by sea and slopes and a special time with someone important.
